Your monkey Bartonzo is extremely beautiful and charismatic.
Perhaps it could be used in the CBR.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... turer76 at: 11/28/03 4:17 pm

Thanks for your help! The forum members made it clear they want quality and the 2-D graphics style of Dagger of Amon Ra is OK, but not for the Remake.

Positions still available (any skill level is fine):
- Create Photoshop/Bryce/Paint Shop Pro 3D-looking backgrounds for Island Landscaping, cemetery, trees, grass. Your choice of software.
Check out <a href="http://www.tiemdesign.com/HOWTO/2001/Se ... to see how to draw in 3-D, and check out www.gardenh ... to see the texture quality. If you don't want to draw in 3-D, you can just take photos of New Orleans we have, remove the object and give it an alpha edge so it looks smooth when you add it to a picture. Get started: Create some fields of grass using the perspective tutorial if you need help. Once you have your grid, start with tiny grass at the top. Increase the tube size just a little and add a layer below and covering the first layer. More and more layers will give you a nice field, play with the perspective to show irregular land, add some plants...

- Create Poser characters to replace the 2-D characters. Poser is necessary so I can 3D Studio Max to make sure they fit in the room properly (lighting, size, angle). Poser 2 and above (I have 4.2 Pro); I recommend starting from a free character, change the costume and dimensions for now. Your can fine-tune the face, hair, etc later and of course the other characters. Our Laura maybe should be a 3D version of her that you find on the back of the original Colonel's Bequest box (blue dress, nicely shaded, not too much detail.) If you want to use Character Studio, only if you have a stable of characters ready to go. Get started: Let's start with a fair lady in a dress with subtle white frills. The lighting should be kind of dark, and the light always comes from the Right and it should be soft. Laura will either be outside in the soft moonlight, inside in the soft warm glow, or in the shadows...

- Create 3D Studio Interior Rooms to replace the drawings. If you can import Poser 2 files, you can use Lightwave, 3D Studio Max or anything. One Thing: The Remake is point and click!! Rooms like the secret passages will be rotated 90 degrees so that we can pick left or right instead of the original where you just aimed Laura up or down. Get started: Pick a room and model it...

- Create miniatures, models or textures. 3D or 2D is fine. These are found throughout the game. Send us an image of something in the game you recreated, a picture on the wall, toys in the game room, inventory items, paintings, a nice parchment to use on the Will in the opening in the game, a dagger model, etc. Things like alligators coming out to bite Laura can be 2D if they look 3D.

Please keep your finished art in a separate folder than your work files so they are easy to find. Let me know where you want to help out or if you have any suggestions!

Jodo Kast

Also AGS? Check out the AGS forums on the AGS website, on the Technical Forums page, check out the thread: Wandering Character. We have a collection of 30 scripts for this project for anyone who wants to help programming!

Looking for the following scripts: Updated Smart Scroller (AGS forums), Sound/Music controls (GUI), and implementation of the parallax script, or objects for the opening scene when Laura and Lillian are in the boat, heading towards the island.

Get started: Help with screenplay. We have a walkthrough ready that tells us what needs to be done. Chart with Visio or something so we know what has to be done before the game advances (flowchart shows what is said/done that all leads to the possibility of the next). Box 1 might show 'get oilcan' and that arrow points to 'oil arm of knight'.

This will have to be done right after the Christmas Demo so we can check everything off as we complete it. But, feel free to get started...

ICQ or e-mail or reply here.

Technology Demo 2 is up if you want to see it. Different background (original 'sketch' to emulate), gate with walkthrough testing (stand under the half red building to see the new gate). New gate doesn't have any texturing, it's just a gradient deformed trapezoid with some shadow. The walk is long across all 7 screens... ...

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... orums>Jodo Kast at: 11/30/03 6:57 am

Remember, 3D is a style, not necessarily a display of technological advancement. I'm no 3D animation expert, but I've heard it's pretty hard to create characters with Poser that don't look like they've been done with Poser. What I'm about to say is only intended to steer the project in the right direction. Don't misinterpret it.

I hope I don't seem to be like a butthole, but I'm not impressed at all with this project. This is what I've seen:

1-You come and say that you're going to do 95% of the work on the project, but you ask for someone to start doing backgrounds.

2-Then, you say you want help with animations. But you say that you'll take care of text and programming.

3-Then, you assume that people are involved with your project. You say, "Ok. Let's get started." No one really says that they're going to help you yet!

4-In the same post, you talk about programmers. You say, "we get to make our own easter eggs!" When you are starting a game, easter eggs are one of the last things to worry about, really.

5-Then, I offer some advice when making backgrounds, and you assume that I've joined up with your project.

6-Then you go back to your "95% by me" statement.

I see a lot of indecision in this project. Really. You need to iron it out, decide what you are good at, and work with it until you have something to show.

You assume that several people are "in it" with you before they make any decisions for themselves. This is a big recruitment thread, but you haven't given us anything to work with. You have a "technology demo" that is supposed to feature 3d parallax scrolling, if I'm not mistaken, and it does not. The project in general seems slapped together.

I don't mean to be rude at all when I'm saying this. I can see that you're DEDICATED to this, but you really need to PLAN OUT everything before you go recruiting people. And don't be so pushy! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">
---------

"I cut down trees, I wear high heels, suspenders and a brar.."
----------
Sponge Factory
Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... kOofmay at: 11/30/03 5:46 pm

Jodo, lots of people are simply offering you advice, they're not asking to join. I'm having the feeling you're taking hands while people only offer fingers. Whenever people suggest "I'd do it this way", you respond with "then DO it that way for me". But that's not the intention of people posting here.

You mentioned you wanted to be the project leader and now that position is up for grabs too?

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nasht ...

LOL, this is hilarious. Well, I suppose these comments will go completely unheard or misheard, but here's some thoughts anyway.

i was impressed with the technology of this demo. 7 screens linked together is something too big to be conceived by common minds.well done.

Just because you can put 7 screens together doesn't mean you should. Especially if there's nothing happening in those 7 joined-screens except for atmosphere. It can get boring quickly having to walk through 7 screens over and over again. Think about Syberia - I think one criticism was (I only played the demo) that there's many beautiful screens, but they're only there to walk through to get from one place to the next. Now I don't know if that's the case with these screens, but it's one thought. It's also a design issue. A room defines an "area," a "mood," a "location." Sierra made 7 rooms for a design reason - you need to think more about it before carelessly joining them together. You have to know everything that will happen in each room throughout the whole game - and now imagine that it's not a confined location - does every event that will happen in each of those rooms benefit, in terms of mood and in terms of logic, from being joined to the other 6 rooms? Or does it detract? Maybe it's worth joining 2 screens together or even 3, but I can't see any good purpose to joining 7. That's not "technology." That's simply an arguably innapropriate use of AGS' room editor. There's also technical complications (Erpy started to suggest what is probably the tip of that iceberg) as well as the aesthetic and design issues.

If you complain about the Poser characters, that's OK. This way the game gets done faster and looks better.

I don't think you understand. The game won't look "better" in most fan's eyes if you user Poser characters. They will think it's a cop-out. In fact you will likely be ridiculed a great deal. And the big Laura Bow fans will probably give you no end of grief and harrasment. In terms of 3D-package generated images, Poser = Ultimate Lameness.

As Erpy and others have stressed... please take this only as critical, hopefully constructive feedback.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... I'm experimenting. AGS has limitations that have to be considered... Also I've considered taking off a couple screens so there is only a 5 screen scroll. Actually the geometry of the island is continually fluctuating. I stop and take pictures now and again to see how it works. I agree 7 screens was boring scrolling.... now what?

Quote:
If you complain about the Poser characters, that's OK.
