i just asked for details, and expected to answer me in a polite manner for these words he said. But if there is a problem, i forget it.I do not have problem about the flames he had said to us, i was eager to know why.

Hi,

Sorry for flaming some of you.

In the Christmas Demo coming up, the rest of the game will be missing except for a few rooms. That is the intent of the demo - a showcase of things before the whole game is done so feedback can be collected... then we meet and spend time on your ideas!

Do you miss the intent of the Technology Demos? It was me messing around with the code before I add script to 'Delete Saved Game' and accidently wipe out your hard drive. AGS is easy to learn but hard to master.

You can gauge my attention to detail in the links to other projects I released already. My specialties might be:
1. timing music to video and using music to add to what you are seeing, dj' stuff
2. bright colors and lots of gradient with bold edges and shadows
3. storytelling

In conclusion, I hope my attention to detail in these areas will help make a good game. I haven't claimed to have built the graphics engine, the adventure game engine, or write the music I select, or wrote the story the game will tell.

The team is dedicated, and the fans are dedicated, so I predict success.

Jodo Kast

Blackthorne,

I liked your demo! Feedback first:

- Aspect Ratio will be the same so when you create your graphics it might be easier to decrease your monitors width. You can tell if it looks right; the Q in Bequest should be round.

OK, if you want to work on something, you know that blaked out painting in your demo? Make a painting like that (multiply pixels by 2 so if it's a 150x100 painting do 300x200).

We'll use that as the texture for that painting. Feel free to make textures for the interior; the rooms will be 3D.

Thanks Blackthorne!

BTW; website will be done in January after we have some screenshots to use, demo to download, etc.

Jodo Kast

I don't own Laura Bow. Post some unedited EGA screenshots. I want to see if I can have any fun.

Yes, but YOU wouldn't be able to take credit for it (because of possible legal repercussions) and if it would be known that your project was done against the copyright holder's specific wishes, you'd have a hard time attracting members willing to work on it.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashc ...

(It was going to be her, but that was before it was decided on 3D characters.)

CHARACTER POLL: Koshini characters are cartoony, and we could then use other characters (like those dopey looking characters).
OR: we could do P4 Male/Female characters.

Koshini base character can be morphed to look male or female, plus the 5 or so usable dopey characters (karl, etc), so that's almost 8.

Poser4 characters have a lot of props already made and collections available. The characters would look totally different - poserish as one person said.

leave your opinion here!

(babelfish translation: koshini looks like an anime girl, and the dopey characters look like they came from 'Keeping up with the Jones'. p4 or poser4 characters are the latest stock characters. you can still morph them so they look different, texture them, etc)

Actually, Laura was going to be motion-capture of my wife walking (with graphic blandishment).

UPDATE: Koshini eyes are larger... Poser4 means we can use Stephanie and Michael and Vic. Close-up tho, during conversations, is anime/cartoon more expressive?

For this reason we are working on the backgrounds. Thanks for your feedback!

Laura Bow Anime. I can just see it.

Arguably, though, EGA Sierra games could've gone either way - realistic or cartoony. Well, some did both. PQ went realistic, SQ / LSL went cartoony. But... not as cartoony as later Sierra games like KQ7. The "cartoony" VGA games like LSL5 were still painted in a somewhat realistic style, not the cel-shaded KQ7 / Disney style.

I can imagine Laura Bow in a KQ7 style. But especially if you are going to have rendered backgrounds like you said, motion capture / realistic would look better with those backgrounds.

Jesus Christ, man, don't do a LB remake in anime!!! Trust me, it would not go down well with just about every Sierra fan (or so I am led to believe).

The two best styles for your project would be the 320*200 classic sierra style like Tierra has used, or the 640*480 semi-cartoony looks of LSL6 and SQ6 (the best looking of any sierra styles, IMHO, although perhaps not right for this style of game).

3D is a risk and going super cartoony would be bad for the atmosphere of the game. 2D realistic graphics (low or hi res)would probably be the most appropriate for Laura bow.

UPDATE: Thanks for your feedback! We'll decide Saturday morning... we are leaning towards P4 characters, more realistic people.

For instance, in Laura Bow 2, in a close up scene in the party, it's more realistic than cartoony (compared to LSL7 I mean).

perhaps it would be easier to decide if Jodo
presented 2 screenshots in order to see the differences:
one with the cartoon style and one with the traditional.
It would help to see the particular implementation because designer A may draw better pictures in cartoon than with traditional style, and designer B the opposite.
