I noticed you stopped posting, but people come and go all the time. Especially here. I don't think you can blame me for not keeping track of every member's presence.

Quote:
When I saw the message reg. the voicepack on the KQ9 forums, there were already posts there with people testifying on actually using it, so the whole prank thing missed me completely.

It's unfortunate that you weren't there at that time, but we couldn't afford to delay the whole thing until, say, april the 5th. The effect would be gone.

Quote:
Maybe I would have found it funny and a nice surprise if I were here to enjoy it, but as it is you just got me pissed off for almost missing out on the voicepack.

We got you pissed off for almost missing out on the voicepack despite the fact that you would have learned about it the first time you'd pay a visit to our site? I wouldn't blame another project myself if they released something and they didn't come over to my place and drag me to their site. It's partially the responsibility of the visitor to remain informed and if you don't visit the site or certain forums, you wouldn't learn about things like these anyhow. Seeing that it spread across forums quite well, I don't think anybody can blame us for not bringing this one into the spotlight.

Quote:
The thing is, you're expected to lie on April Fool's day, not on all the days that came before it (by saying there's no voice pack).

I wonder how many people truly consider this as outright lying. I prefer to see it as wanting to keep something a secret. Start asking any official company representative questions he doesn't want to answer and he'll likely start denying things. Most official companies don't even make statements about unreleased products.

Quote:
As PR tricks go, it's still the worst one I ever seen.

Seeing that we got a nice amount of public attention from this and that this one will likely stick in people's minds for a while because of the little twist involved, I can't imagine how this could be seen as bad PR. I don't notice any reasons for thinking that our action was something bad PR-wise.

Quote:
Erpy, your excuses for not announcing it have nothing to do with PR - they're more about "how we saved ourselves the headache of answering fan questions". Besides, from what I gathered, you weren't involved in the making of the voicepack, so how would YOU answering questions would keep you from working on it?

Ah, but the PR-part is the announcement itself and how it was done. Although working on something in secret and then surprising everyone with it, CAN be seen as a way of doing PR. As for myself, no I wasn't involved in the voicepack, but I was involved in testing it. (as were the other mods) The testing was quite thorough and it's easier to take your time and be detailed rather than having to hurry because the fans are anxious to see the release. On top of that, I'm also involved in behind-the-scenes work, so not having the forums flooded with people waiting for the voicepack is still an advantage. I'd say our reasons for working on it in secret were still pretty valid.

Quote:
About the whole thing with Kurt

Nope, I'm not his lawyer, but accusing someone of being unloyal to his own project for being active on our visitors forums and not so much on the public forums of KQ9 has to be one of the silliest things I've ever heard. If Tierra-members accused me of being a traitor because I also posted on another board a lot, I'd call them unreasonable. I see you edited your post a day later and added an emoticon, but the initial tone was quite...ludicrous.

Quote:
Also, I was planning on not visiting "my" forum as well. In that case, I would have had the risk of missing the voicepack altogether hence the annoyed attitude.

That sounds as if you're convinced that we're gonna remove the voice pack after having it online for about two weeks and that everyone who doesn't download it straight away "misses out" on the whole thing. I don't think it would have mattered if you learned about it after 2 months or even half a year. You'd still be able to download and experience it. Saying something like "I would have missed it altogether" is like: "I already decided never to check on this site again, but if I miss any important announcements, it's still your fault for not informing me personally." Like I said, it's partially the responsibility of the visitor to remain updated. We've done our part by letting it spread.

Quote:
Umm...did I miss something?

Check out the later parts of <a href="http://pub57.ezboard.com/froyalquestfor ... thread, Rav.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nasht ...

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... ms>Erpy at: 4/9/03 8:43:40 am

Besides, even with the small amount of people who did find out about the voice pack on the day it was released, there was still a lot of congestion on the downloads page and many people were not able to connect to the link.

This situation, too, was anticipated and the prank was a good thing to prevent too many extra people trying to download the game within the first few days and making the servers congested even more.

Hey, I thought it was a good joke. And how could it lying if the truth was told all along? I really didn't mind being one of the many butts of this little prank because I got something cool out of it. I really can understand how that a few people got their noses bent out of shape over this. It's not like it was everyone's God given right to have a voice pack for KQ2+, or a KQ2+ for that matter. Okay, wow, it apparently wasn't a good week to have plays going up because I seem to have been the center of a debate all of a sudden! You don't exactly see us at KQ9 falling all over ourselves to tell you the lastest thing about the project, do you? The occasional newsletter (which, btw, #3 will come out at some point and time) and the sketch of the week is all we do, and that right there is already more than Tierra does. I don't think that anyone has the right to attack a site that post a prank on April 1st. The three sites I visit the most posted pranks on that day; ‘Gamer' (the Israeli one), ‘Walla' and ‘Tierra'. But, in this special case I can see their point of view. I was a little bit mad myself, but only because that you were able to fool me <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat">

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... NOT emotional... It's just that the whole purpose of PR is getting people to know about your product, not hiding it from them <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... lasses.gif ALT="8)">
Anyway, I also thought it was a joke the first time I saw the announcement. True, but we've only been hiding it until it was completed. (again: this was in best interest for both parties and had nothing to do with PR)

Then we announced it, added a little twist to it so it would remain in people's heads (like: "Do you remember the announcement of the KQ2-voicepack?" "Grrrrr. yes."), and then we had the word spread.
