Why can I not find the basket of goodies at grandma's house. All I get is a letter to read and something about going to the church, which is locked.

Having not played the original KQ2, from what I have read on it, it is not an exact 1:1 remake.  What they did instead was expand the game so as to give you more of a story and so most of the things are not the same as the original. The basket is found in a different location altogether.  Also, if you are having that much trouble finding it, there is a walkthrough done by Erpy on the main website.

What he says is true. If you are playing with your knowledge of the original KQ2, or even a walkthrough from that game, throw them out. They won't help you here.

The puzzles aren't really all that difficult to figure out. You just have to play the game as though you never played the original KQ2.

This version is different from the Original One.
To find the basket you first have to meet and talk to Possum(A small girl dressed in RED, resembling little Red Riding Hood.
Upon meeting her you will learn that she is looking for her basket of flowers .Then explore the forest ;most likely while going towards the town you will surelyfind the basket of flowers. Then give it to her.In return she will give you one yellow flower which will be very useful to you in your quest for the Air Gem.

ALl d best !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
