Having a hard time cutting loose!

I am stuck on the bridge and have already tried using my sword in order to cut myself loose. However after reading another posting here, someone mentioned a knife. I vaguely recall one in the dwarf`s place BUT remember that I wasn`t able to get it. Please give a hint or deliver the news on the knife :\

when your foot gets stuck on the bridge the dwarf should come by. then you need to get his knife from him. if he doesn't come, there might be a bug in your game....

You have to force the dwarf to help you.

[spoiler]Put the stones in the hankerchief and toss them to the far side of the bridge. When the dwarf starts pacing, click the talk icon on him.[/spoiler]
