Question about Possum (spoilers)

This is more about Possum and her grandmother. Now maybe I just missed the explanation somewhere, which is entirely possible, but why is Possum (who was a small kid) suddenly a teenage/adult after she's turned by the count and her grandmother obviously gets younger? Was some magic spell taking place that gave some of grandmother's age to possum?
