Yes, you read it correctly, it's not a typographical error... the official KQ2VGA walkthrough has been released! Now you can cheat to your heart's content without feeling the slightest bit of guilt nor remorse - and best of all, nobody will ever know! Boldly boast to your friends about how you beat the game all by yourself! Then show them EVIDENCE that there's no record of you ever having asked for hints on the Tierra forums! Watch as their jaws drop in admiration at your apparant adventure gaming prowess. Then, spend the entire day being worshipped and being waited on hand and foot!

You, too, can have this amazing ability! Simply visit the KQ2VGA page at http://www.tierraentertainment.com and click on the Walkthrough link at the very bottom of the page! Amazing! :)

Pssst...AGD2. The links to the treasure door picture and bookcase picture still link to the pics on my webspace. Since I intend to take those pictures down one of these days, see if you can put the pics on the Tierra-site and change the links if you don't want visitors to get a "not found"-error. (just search for jpg-pics and you'll come across them soon enough)

It might also help to add it to the left collumn of the KQ2-page, so people don't have to scroll all the way down.

Oh yes, and another thanks to Relight for doing the maps.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashm ...

Great job, guys. Pity I finished the game. With 183 points. Wait NOOO! OK so it may come in handy. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Not a pity at all. Finishing the game on your own is much more fun. That's why we've been waiting with it for so long.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashh ...

Very interesting and comprehensive walkthrough. Where did you find out about the tag attributes/codes to make text appear when clicking on a topic? This one "msimagelist" is probably one of the reasons it doesn't work in Mozilla. Microsoft has the habit of inventing new tags/attributes that aren't in the W3C standard, hence not supported by other browsers.
------------------
I think therefore I am ... I think???

Well, the first version was completely text-based like the FAQ I put on Gamefaqs. That was supposed to happen to this one too. AGD2 asked me if it was okay with me if they waited a little while before releasing it. After seeing the new website and how much my KQ1VGA FAQ (in text-form) clashed with it, I turned it into a HTML-FAQ based on Tierra's website layout.

I did the same to my KQ2VGA FAQ. I completely rewrote most parts during the conversion process. I don't have frontpage at home, so I worked on the FAQ mostly during free hours at school. Frontpage majorly messed up my FAQ multiple times and I had to manually fix lots of things. The msimagelist is a script made by Frontpage and it wouldn't be a Microsoft product if it WOULD be supported by other browsers.

And Vildern, this walkthrough isn't the first one to appear on the net. Chris van Zyl (who wrote a walkthrough on KQ1VGA that appeared on the old qknowledge-site) wrote a KQ2VGA-walkthrough a week or so after the game's release. It was listed on Just Adventure, so I guess lots of people used it instead of coming here. That one's likely the walkthrough KQ2help (remember him?) tried to stuff through everyone's throat. (I unbanned him today since his threat of posting a walkthrough here if we didn't publish one is moot now)

Chris van Zyl's walkthrough was fairly spoilerish. It listed every action needed to complete the game with full score and even told players which directions to walk to reach the next scene. I wanted my walkthrough to go easy on people who wanted to figure things out themselves and structured it in a way people wouldn't accidently get spoiled. Unfortunately, it won't work with all browsers.

Of course, I'd still like to request not to post links to walkthroughs. People who come here post in order to get hints from real people, not from some online document. So don't go around telling them to look at the walkthrough instead of giving hints yourself.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashn ...

Nice, if you click on the lines it shows you hints. But that's no walkthrough if u ask me <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

Just hints, it doesnt tell you word-by-word what to do, like it did in the KQ1 walkthrough.

The point list part pretty much lists every action needed to complete the game with the location listed next to it. (not just the actions that give points are listed) I consider that pretty much a walkthrough. It's section four, I believe.

I'm not gonna give directions like, west, west, north. If people are smart enough to download the game and run it, they're also smart enough to figure out which location is where.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashs ...

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... ms>Erpy at: 2/2/03 5:02:38 pm

Looks good!

The only thing I find a bit strange is the way all the hints start visible, but if you click one it collapses down - seems a bit odd. Wouldn't it make more sense to have them all invisible to start with, and only open up when you clicked one?

IE5 / Win2000 in case it matters.

That's strange indeed. That's exactly how it behaves on my computer. Only the red questions are visible; not the hints below.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashq ...

Hmm... the text is hard to read with that background image there. Maybe you should put something easier on the eyes?

and...yes, I have passed the game... Hey, does anyone mind if I tear at the markup to get to comply to W3C specs? I just can't stand to see things like this:

<a href="http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http% ...

Bah, it's just because you used FrontPage. FrontPage is evil crap. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)"> I can fix it--and probably get the hints to hide in older versions of IE--and Mozilla and Opera, and just about anything other than IE6, it appears. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

That includes me too. Frontpage majorly messed up my FAQ a couple of times and I had to edit things manually. Unfortunately, it was the only thing I had available. If you have the means to fix it, feel free to leave a little credit-note to yourself in there.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashb ...

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... ms>Erpy at: 2/3/03 10:12:50 pm

I don't know what everyone's problem is with FrontPage. I use it for all my web design and have had no problems at all. As long as you don't use its fancy "Microsoft-only" features it is a very useful tool for laying out the webpage in a WYSIWYG environment.

It's not at all efficient file size-wise, since it tries to put a long-as-hell tag EVERYWHERE instead of using CSS. And its code is a bloody mess. Yes, it works, but it's ugly, and inefficient.

(Offhand, I'm only up to the third hint, and I've already chopped off 40kB from the file size. It doesn't use an Javascript yet, but that won't add much to the file size.)

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... kunaito at: 2/4/03 12:42:38 am

I took a class in XHTML once, so I know how webpage generators tend to not include the current standards, and MS takes longer tp be compliant if ever.

This reminds me. A class? I didn't think those existed. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">
Anyway, Erpy, it's taking me much longer than I expected (Microsoft made a bigger mess than I expected), but I'm down around the Easter egg list right now. I'll go back and tweak the point list, though--I left it more or less alone originally, but the text doesn't exactly line up anymore, so I'll put tables to line it all up. Sneaky, but it works. I may have PHP help me with that one.
