Suggestions (spoilers) after finishing the game

#1 Post by BeetleB » Mon Jan 20, 2003 12:35 am

Hi,

Suggestions with the interface and puzzles for future games:

* During some of the conversations, I could not click the mouse button or press Enter to hurry it up (Escape would be useless as it would skip the whole thing). That was immensely irritating. Ideally, when a person starts speaking, his text should remain on the screen until the user presses a key, and then it should go to the other person.

* Sometimes dying took a while. For example, while digging graves, if I dug the wrong grave, I would die. Then I would have to wait for it to ask me if I wanted to restore. I should be able to hit the restore button as soon as I KNOW I'm going to die. It got quite irritating in the graveyards and while walking through the brambles.

* Minor one. When I want to write the name of the save game, I should be able to hit Control-C (or another keystroke) to clear the text field - that was standard in Sierra games and it's quite convenient.

* Overall, the puzzles were good. However, for a few I thought of solutions that were as "good" as the actual ones, but mine didn't work, of course. As an example, when I'm trying to get in the castle, I'm being stopped by the ghosts. I thought of putting that white handkerchief on so that I would look like a ghost (as they have in old cartoons and movies). Now I didn't know that it was just a handkerchief (whenever you look at it, it says something to the effect that it is quite big). The solution was almost identical to the correct one (naturally, I DIDN'T have the coat when I was stuck there).

Probably more thorough beta testing would have fixed the above problem.

* I didn't like the story towards the end all that much, but I seem to be in the minority, so I won't say much about it. I'll just say that I don't really like stories with vampires, which explains much.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":p"> It was still a better story than the original, though.

* Finally, I hope you don't change the story TOO much for the third one, when/if you make it. I think that was the first KQ which actually had a proper storyline.

Yes, in certain scenes, the action is timed to the music. Therefor, you can't speed it up as the music wouldn't fit the moment anymore. (example: the meeting between Hagatha and Angelina. If you'd skip the lines, you'd see the room shake from Hagatha's spell and you'd hear the boom half a minute later)

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashm ...

This is intentional too - since the player should know which grave to dig if they've solved the puzzle. Otherwise, they must be digging each grave randomly until they find the correct one. If players could skip the death sequence and quickly restore the game, the player could figure out the correct grave in under a minute, which defeats the purpose of having a puzzle there in the first place... so we had to make this notion seem unappealing somehow... making players sit through lengthy death scenes seemed like a decent way to acheive this!

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... >Anonymous Game Creator 2 at: 1/21/03 1:12:12 am

Getting through the brambles without seeing a single death animation is also the end result of solving another puzzle.
------------------
I think therefore I am ... I think???

All right, I can understand that. Still, could you guys get Chris Jones to add some "change directory" and "delete game" buttons to the save menu sometime? That would rock, even if you could only implement it in QfG2VGA. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... erInLaw at: 1/21/03 9:54:43 pm

Actually, if you remember, you were given an item and told that it would protect you from poisonous thorns and brambles. Now if only I could remember what it was. . .<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":p">

I think it's something like the "poisonous growth of the land." So not quite as obvious, but still obvious enough; there aren't that many poisonous plants around. And as there's no time limit for the item's effect, it really isn't hard to get past the thorns via that.

That cloak belonged to Caldaur once, so the ghosts probably mistook you for him.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nasht ...

They notice the cloak. Yet, they don't notice the hat and other clothes that Caladur whould never wear(I'm guessing about that.).
The Knight

My thought ...(x50)

#16 Post by Wolfgang Abenteuer » Wed Jan 22, 2003 10:48 pm

Well, remember that the ghosts themselves didn't have eyes, just gaping empty sockets (kudos to AGD1 for that creepy dialogue pic! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D"> ), so perhaps they didn't "see" Graham as much as they felt his presence. Maybe they could sense Caldaur when Graham was wearing that cloak.

~Wolfgang

They think its Caladur, because Graham just wears one of his cloaks? <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":b">
The Knight

Sure, why not? Since Caldaur was versed in magic, perhaps he put some sort of enchantment on the cloak and the ghosts can sense the magic. It's just a good thing the ghosts didn't know Trigger or we may have had Graham kibble... <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

~Wolfgang

Lets just say the ghosts are visually challenged. And all they can see is black cloaks.
The Knight
