King's Quest 2 Version2.0 and Speech pack Released

#1 Post by Anonymous Game Creator 2 » Thu Apr 03, 2003 2:36 pm

That's correct... it's no longer April 1 and the joke is over! :) As the title of this thread implies, King's Quest 2 VGA Version2.0 has been released. This will be the final version of this game.

Amongst the most prominent changes in KQ2VGA are:

-Added speech pack support!
-Added the ability to press CTRL+C in the savegame GUI to quickly clear the text box.
-Added an alternate (non-violent) solution to the Wolf/crossroad puzzle and re-arranged points accordingly
-Added points scoring sound to some screens where it was missing
-Fixed a lock up after Enchanter kills Graham and restore/restart/quit box appears
-Fixed a lock up which could occur when player leaves the screen and clicks on the Options menu at the same time
-Fixed a bug which caused Hagatha to talk for too long if she catches Graham in her cave after chanting
-Fixed a bug where the door to the quartz tower could be opened by clicking on the first symbol only.
-Removed the setup option to use 960x600 resolution
-Prevented player from being able to drink youth potion while stuck on bridge
-Prevented player from being able to bring up inventory window when Save and Restore Windows were already on screen
-Prevented Enchanter from Entering Row of 6 stones screen if Death Window is already on screen
-Music tracks now crossfade
-Multiple sound channels added
-Inventory scrollbar now resets to the top item if you close it, enter a new screen and then open it again
-Changed the wording of the twin lion statue's first poem so that it does not cause a contradiction
-Book title pop-ups will not appear while inventory screen is active in bookcase puzzle screen
-Characters no longer walk directly through each other
-Players will now recieve a warning message if they try to play KQ2VGA in 640x400 mode.

As mentioned above, a speech pack has also been released for the KQ2VGA! It includes over 1,400 lines of spoken dialogue, and features the voice talents of two actors from the original KQ5 cast: Josh Mandel (King Graham) and Richard Aronson (**SPOILER**..... Cedric and Count Caldaur......). The speech pack also includes the talents of various other talented voice actors who injected personality, life (and in some cases, death) into the characters of Kolyma and Daventry.

The voice pack had been secretly in production for many months. The idea came about after we decided it would be cool to be make a speech pack for the game and actually be able hear the characters talking and telling a story. What began as a spur of the moment idea was soon underway as a full time effort - and several months later, we've got the completed product.

Go and download it now and enjoy!

Update the FAQ...

... someone needs to update the FAQ, which still says there won't be a voice pack. :D

How did you ever get two of the KQ5 actors to do voices for KQ2+?

Very cool!

So was Richard amused by Graham wanting to destroy Cedric? I imagine that actors sometimes get kind of attached to the characters that they portray.

"May the way of the hero
lead to the Triforce."

Okay, another question then: How did Tierra meet Josh?

<a href="http://pub49.ezboard.com/fgaminggroundz ... <img src="http://malekdarshin.homestead.com/files/junki.gif" style="border:0;"alt="The Junki Knights of Junkyardia."/>

IIRC, and I may not be... Tierra was introduced to Josh by one of the forum members... it's been a really long time since I've read anything about that, so I might not be correct...

Tierra was kicking around the idea of making a voice-pack for KQ1, but was undecided as it would be a lot of work. After they found out Josh was willing to help, they couldn't pass up the opportunity. That's written somewhere in a thread... can't remember where though... sorry.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=":\">

"Without the fleet, the contest would be on our home grounds, and war is one contest in which it is best to be on the visiting team." -ADM Nimitz

Spectacular. Impressive. <sigh>, oh the wait for QFG2...

I shudder every time I see all the MPG compression, and worse, color banding in my cutscene. Speaking of which... is there anyway to release the original non-ags version of your 3d cutscene? I guess it would be considered Tierra's property, and they may not want to, but I thought it'd be cool to see it...

"Without the fleet, the contest would be on our home grounds, and war is one contest in which it is best to be on the visiting team." -ADM Nimitz

I just played though the entire game (again) with the voice pack added in one sitting, and man my butt is tired! I'm blown away that "amateur game makers" could could make such an awesome and professional game. Keep this up and you won't be able to compete in the Olympics!

*Desperately awaiting Quest for Glory 2 VGA.*

<a href="http://pub49.ezboard.com/fgaminggroundz ... <img src="http://malekdarshin.homestead.com/files/junki.gif" style="border:0;"alt="The Junki Knights of Junkyardia."/>

I guess I have to download version 2.0 in order for the speechpack to work. I think that's what I've been doing wrong, becasue I can't hear any voices.

Cool. What I don't get, though, is why you added a scrollbar on the pause menu to control speech volume if the speech pack doesn't even work for that version. What's up with that? Supposed to be a hint or something, about this surprise release? <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Since the voicepack has been in production since august, tests were also done with version 1.0 and 1.1. (specially modified versions that is)

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nasht ...

Tell me Tierra, how did you organize this? Did you end up having to redo some pieces of music? I haven't noticed anything there... Or did you have to wait for all the voice actors to submit their voices before being able to start on the cutscenes? What I'm saying is the amount of time of the dialogues would be different. May I ask how you coordinated it? Was there a pattern?

----------
Sponge Factory

Two timed sequences had to be redone. The timing in others was often sufficient or the actors had to speak just a little faster.

Since they did a lot of voices themselves, they were capable of doing some testing before other contributions came in.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nasht ...

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... >Anonymous Game Creator 2 at: 4/6/03 2:29:07 am

BTW, there is a bug with the voice pack, I think. Graham mentioned Maws (out loud), but Anastasia hadn't mentioned him before (I think). So how could he know about him? Now you have something broken to fix.

"Sopor på marken"

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... Graham asks about "Maws" after reading the black book with the fairy tale poem. The last line reads: "But get it part wrong and you'll be greeted by 'Maws'."

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashs ...

<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D"> I am so pleased with the speech pack! The voices are great, the really add to depth to the game. I am pleased with how Neptune and Count Caldaur sound. Valanice's voice is great too, so are the others. I think the shark king should sound scarier though. playing the game all over again is fun.
