I got to the day right before going to Raseir and meant to get up in the evening to hear the poet however I accidently slept til morning, got to Raseir and was subsequently thrown in prison. However now I can't befriend the katta in the cell. Is it still possible to escape or do I need to restore an earlier game?

Yes. Depending on your class, break the door, cast open, or look around for something to pick the lock with.

well I broke the door down but I can't escape the guards that come after.

Edit: (this is becoming a habit) Found the way out after much trial and error (and none of it by fire)
