Without using the parser, how do I get the apothecary to sell me incense for the fire elemental encounter?

EDIT: Nevermind.
I just had to ask him about the Fire Elemental after talking to Aziza.

this is the one part of the game I got stuck royally because I didn't even know you needed incense.

In the EGA version I always beat the fire elemental without incense. I'd just keep squirting him with my water canteen until he got into the alleyway, then shove him in the lamp. Haven't tried it in the VGA remake yet though, as I just got to the fire Elemental earlier (Stupid work, grumble).
