Street names

I had English translations of all street names underneath their normal names, then I restarted and they vanished - I just get the Shapeirian names on mouseover now.

I miss them, how do I get them back?

Thanks

I believe there are only translations when you look at the street entrance from a plaza.

I had it when I was walking through the streets, not just from the plaza.

Same here.

I'm not certain, but I think I got the translations by speaking with Shameen.

You must ask either Shema or Shameen about 'money changer' via parser before leaving the inn for the very first time.

That is amazingly cool. I was completely unaware :o.

I thought it was something like that, and when I'd restarted (I wanted simpler streets) I didn't ask again (well, not them anyway).

Next playthrough (I've only ever played thief on QFGs, and I'm going to try a different class) I'll talk first up.

Awesome :)

Yeah, and it was unnamed in the original too. Probably a conscious decision.

You get the explanation about the names from Shameen/Shema too if you ask them about the money changer through point&click, though you have to leave the inn and unsuccesfully try to buy something from Ali Chica before it pops up in your P&C tree. The opportunity to learn the names from your Katta friends doesn't disappear until you actually reach Dinarzad.

And Adeyke, it was a rather last-minute addition, so it's no wonder you missed it.

Mmmhhhh... I got that message from Shameen and don't remember seeing the names translated. Marking on this thread as one into which I posted to test it again later.

Jamal Darb = Beauty Avenue
Nope! I've been studying Arabic for three years.
Jamal Darb is Camel Avenue, and Beauty Avenue is Jamil Darb :)

Yes, certainly... If you're literally hungry enough to eat a horse, but there aren't any around... :p

I can imagine all the native arabic jokes that are spawned from that conflation.

You know, that error, duplicated or not, is a bit unforgivable, considering the Welcome Woman at the Welcome Inn of Tarna is named Janna Jamil and she's no camel paradise. :p

I liked those, didn't realize it was street names though. It seemed like propaganda or something being said and was pretty cool

Let's settle for semi-forgivable, since QFG3 does not contain the arabic word for camel and a layman has no way of telling that Jamal isn't just a variation of Jamil.

Good point; also, since there isn't an actual Jamil Darb in QfG2 as well, we'll let you slide.

This time. :p
