Near end with mage... am I missing something

So I 'calm'ed Khaveen, levitated down, opened the door (with and without trigger), cast reversal, and then entered the ritual room. Every time I go in that darn statue immediately kills me. Probably something I'm overlooking...
Any help?
Great job with the remake, BTW!

If you're a wizard, the thing WILL clobber you once. As long as you have enough health to take it, you'll be fine.

Ah, maybe that's it. I never even thought to check what my health was before entering the room. Duh!
Will have to try that when I get off work today.
