I have to say, the ability to change the keyboard layout in combat was a brilliant idea. Because I play on a laptop, I don't have a number pad to fight with, so I had no choice but to come up with a custom layout. It's based around using the WASD and arrow keys. To me, it feels totally natural; movement with the right hand, attacks and defense with the left, never having to move your hand far from the neutral spot. This is what I use...
Arrow keys: forward, backward, dodge left and right
W: Swing
S: Stab
A: Dodge
D: Parry
Q: Special
E: Sidekick
F: Throw
Z: Zap
X: Dazzle
C: Force Bolt
V: Flame Dart
How have the rest of you customized your controls? Has anybody, or are the defaults generally sufficient? It's interesting using, and seeing how the rest of you have adapted to, this new combat system.
What's your combat key layout?

Re: What's your combat key layout?
I went with an entirely left handed scheme.
- w=forward
s=backward
a=dodge left
d=dodge right
q=swing
e=stab
z=block
x=parry
c=side kick
r= special
t=dagger toss
f=razzle dazzle
v=zap
g=force bolt
b=flame dart
Re: What's your combat key layout?
My setup was something like this (using the numpad for numbers):
WASD: Forward Back Left Right
Q: Throw dagger
7: Swing (default)
9: Stab (default)
4: Block (default)
5: Parry (default)
8: Special
5: Side-kick (default)
Spacebar: Dazzle
0: Zap
1: Flame dart
2: Force bolt
It worked extremely effectively, even at "hard" difficulty with non-imported characters (though, naturally, such characters require considerable training early on).

Re: What's your combat key layout?
1 - dagger throw
2 - side kick
3 - special
q - swing
w - forward
e - stab
s - back
a - block
d - dodge right
z - dodge left
c - parry
up arrow - dazzle
down arrow - zap
left arrow - fire bolt
right arrow - force bolt
If I play again sometime, I think I'll arrange the defense keys to use with the other hand than the attack keys.

Re: What's your combat key layout?
@Prio: Yeah, I gotta know that one well enough. Whenever I'd load a quicksave made during battle, I got creamed because several of my controls were not the way I was used to them.
I think it's really cool how many different layout preferences there are.

Re: What's your combat key layout?
Instead of WASD, I I use ESDF, I created back in the DOOM 1 days, long before people started to use WASD, and I've stuck with it, because since my pointer finger is on the "F" key, the little tab in it reminds me my hand is correct.
E=Forward
D= Backward
S=Left
F=Right
9=Slash
0=Stab
R=Razzle Dazzle
B=Force Bolt
A=Flame Dart
Z=Zap
I really like my off hand to attack, but I'm also thinking of doing what you guys are doing and moving my spells to my right hand. So my left hand is free for movement, right combat. I'll guess i'll see how it goes.
