Is there anyway to find out where you are in the desert? I have completely lost track of where my character is and I'm trying to find my way back to the start city, hehe

If all else fails, go due north! Try to recap if you went east or west of the Shapier vicinity, then head back that way among the northern rock walls.

I got a little confused at how non-linear the desert was; it's not a linear mapping like the forests of Spielburg and Mordavia.

There's really only 3 locations that matter in the desert and they're very easy to get to. The 4th one that appears, you'll be given directions much later on when the time is right.

Well, there is a fifth location, or perhaps better described as a delicious direction... :p
But that's an optional sidequest.

First of all, if there are rocks/plants in the desert screens where the sky is visible (i.e: not the ones closest to the rock wall), you're still somewhere near Shapeir. If it's mostly plants/cacti, you're usually east of the city. If it's mostly rocks, you're either west or somewhere south of the city. If you have a compass, use it to determine which way is north. The city is along the northern rock wall...east of the griffin's nest and west of the small tree.

Next time, you can pick rocks, and then drop them one by one as you go through the desert.

I heard about the rather tasty 5th location. Didn't I find a box on Askeri Darb? ;)

But how do I find it...relative to the major screens? (like the griffin, oasis, Shapier vicinity, etc.)

There's a sixth location but it's generally easier to take the caravan.

You're asking how to find the Pizza Elemental?
  • Have the pizza box
  • Have the Fire Elemental defeated
  • Walk 3 screens down from the stable, into the desert
  • Keep walking left until you find him. It's gonna be a long walk - at least 40 screens left.

[*]Walk 3 screens down from the stable
As in...3 screens down from the screen with the guard and Sauruses, or 3 screens down from the desert screen where you see the panoramic view of the city?

Thanks for the tips :) I am at the northern rock wall - and I think I've walked 17 screens to the right without meeting anything - Then I thought that maybe you had to approach the city from the south - so I have been walking one screen down, one screen right, one screen up - no city - one screen down, one screen right, one screen up...for another 10 screens I think. Not meeting anything other than brigands and terrorsauruses and scorpions.

so it does not loop from right to left at any point? do I have to go the appr. 27 screens back to the left if I'm on the wrong side of the city? hehe

Goodness no, it does not loop. It goes on endlessly in both east and western directions.

No need to do the screens down and up either - just keep along the wall...

At some moment the variable where you store the distance from Shapeir will overflow so, unless that event crashes the game, you'll finally return to shapeir after having crossed the entire world sphere.

Assuming that the time you have to beat the game doesn't end before you have finished your travel, and that you have over +8000 waterskins or so to avoid dieing of thirst. :lol

Somebody wants to try?

Then again - that many waterskins might overflow a variable as well . . .

Nice try. Actually, it doesn't work that way. Eventually it simply stops counting. So if Shapeir were like at x=4000 and you'd go 5000 screens west, you'd only have to go 4000 screens east to get back to the city again. At least, that's how I scripted it. The fact that you're playing this game now and not next year is proof that I didn't do extensive research into whether it's 100% realiable.

Terribly sorry to resurrect this ancient thread, but I figured it might be better than starting a new one on the same subject. I suddenly find myself in the same boat -- hopelessly lost in the desert. I finally managed to kill some things and increase my skills out here, so I am loathe to go back to an earlier saved game. Is there any way for me to figure out where I am? I have gone north to the wall and then searched both east and west (different restores) for about 40-50 screens each way -- nothing but bad guys and a slow death due to thirst. I can't remember if I "crossed" the POV to originally get here, but I tried that regardless, then again searched east and west when I hit the opposite wall. Still nothing. Saw here that it doesn't loop. Argh. Am I buzzard bait without an earlier restore point?

Any help appreciated!

~Z.

There's not a great deal of additional help I can give you. You can find out for yourself if you crossed the POV-line by using the compass. Or you don't have the compass, wait until nightfall (try to rest as much as possible) and take a look at the sky...in the northern part the constellations of the saurus and dark hand are visible, in the southern part the dragon and scorpion signs are present. Once you know which way is north, go to the northern part of the desert, save and keep walking in one direction until you see plants or rocks. (don't stick close to the rock wall, because those screens always have plants and rocks) If that direction doesn't work, restore and try the other one. Although it helps if you can remember which direction you started off in to begin with.

If you left your saurus somewhere in the desert, you can set the difficulty level to easy and click the mouth on the hero to instantly summon him.
