How high does your climing have to be to practice at the oasis? My fighter that I gave climing to keeps getting the message that he needs more skill.

At some point, you'll be unable to try and climb the cliff any longer. At that point, the tree should be climbable, although you might fail a couple of times at first. Keep trying.

Climbing at the griffin's won't wake it. You never actually get up to the nest.

The best place to increase your climbing skill is still the same as it was in the original in WIT don't calm the wall just keep trying to climb it till you've maxed skill then complete task.

In the original, that was the only place to reliably up your climbing skill. (at least without having to buy expensive magic ropes) In the remake, the griffin cliff and tree at the oasis give more climbing experience than the magic wall.
