Griffin question

Can you not kill the griffin like in the original game? When i disturb the griffin it attacks me twice until it down to 50% health, then disappears for ever. I'm playing version 1.1 of the remake atm.

The fight itself takes place in 3 phases and during each stage the griffin adds new moves to its repertoire. The first time it attacks you right after disturbing it. The second time is around day 7 and the final time is around day 14. It'll always attack you in the desert if these conditions are met, assuming you're not too close to the mountains and there's no "special screen" directly north of where you are.
