Great game...I just love all the extras. I really long for more!!! I just discovered something I had never found before in the game. The Saurus repair shop at the end of Dambi Darb. This is so funny. Is it just for fun or can I actually do something here?
Thanks!

It's just for fun.

Yeah, it's just there. It isn't even in the simplified alleyway system. It's like one big easter egg. (like it was originally meant to be)

Holy crap, there needs to be some clearer indication of how much you will miss when choosing the simplified system.

Two things. The saurus repair shop (which is an easter egg room more or less salvaged from scrapped material from the original QFG2) and the warrior's diary sidequest. (which is fun, but the diary doesn't serve an actual practical purpose in the game) Also, both systems have a few katta merchants unique to them.
The reason for keeping those things out of the simplified system was simple...both gimmicks were meant to be hidden and only uncovered by exploration. Since the simplified system doesn't contain any streets I would call optional, hiding stuff in there isn't very effective since just about every player is still going to stumble upon them without a great deal of trying.
