Dervish Puzzle

I am having trouble with the Dervish puzzle.
I am on day 12, I got directions to go see the Dervish from the guard. I went to talk to the Dervish and asked him everything under the sun, including the stuff for the puzzle itself. I go then and see the Beast, I have even fed and gave water to the beast. Then I returned to town to talk to Harrik, the apothecary. Harrik has no dialog options for the Beast.
What am I missing here?
