Stuck on the ship :(

#1 Post by Nei » Sun Feb 27, 2011 7:28 pm

I've done all my chores and gotten my items back. Trying to get off the ship. I tried to use the sleeping powder all over the place like in the sleeping quarters and the hold but I keep being told that it's not dark enough.

You should be able to use it in the hold, oh long-eared one. But it has to be applied on the floor, not on the walls.

I was stuck as well at this point in the game. Apparently you can only apply the powder in a very specific place in the ship. What makes this puzzle extra non-obvious, is that there aren't any pirates around in the area where you are applying the powder.

The spell doesn't really say room, it says vicinity which is a fairly broad term. Its range is large enough to affect even the guy in the crow's nest.

But that is only apparent after you've used it, so you don't know that when you're looking for a solution to this puzzle.

Since vicinity is a broad term and the game has no dead ends, it's worth a try, no?

Sure. And of course it's not impossible to guess either. But still, it felt like one of the least smooth parts of the game to me.

It would have helped a lot if the message for using it in the wrong area would be different... something like "You can't use it here, but you're on the right track" so I would know I'm thinking in the right direction.

I got it :) The overturned rowboat was a bit of a clue actually >_>

I managed to finish the game at 209 points. Wonder what I was missing. :S

PS: Long-eared one?

It was a reference to your username. I'm a fan of the classic Phantasy Star series. Unless, of course, your screenname was a reference to something else.
