Finished game with 171/210 in 32 mins.

#1 Post by flyinghammy » Mon Feb 28, 2011 5:41 am

Received the Underachiever, Blue Hedgehog, Grudge, Wallflower, Insomniac, and Marathon Award

Can anyone score any less or finish the game any faster?

Wow, didn't think it was possible to do things that quickly and still get the marathon award. Congratulations, that's an awesome achievement.

It wasn't easy, you pretty much have to get the cookie after the Wizard's first trip. Memorizing how to create spells also helps, plus I did skip 2 spells to get the minimum score.

I don't think anyone can get a lower score (and not just because you got the Underachiever Award). Skipping 39 points is the lowest possible score I could determine from my point list; you've proven my math is valid (presuming Underachiever only triggers for the minimum possible score).

I finished with 160-something. I'm afraid I didn't pay close attention at the time though. I'll see if I have a saved game near the end and report back.

Then something went wrong. 171 is supposed to be the minimum you can get without cheating.

So I was right. Sweet. Nothing like getting your theory validated.

I'm sorry. I goofed. My lowest score was 171. I mistyped 161 when I was taking notes.

Just to clearify. You mean you got the cookie done that in second trip? or first trip?

I tried to do that within two trips, but it is rather impossible, I listed all required ingredients and spells in order to get the Cookie spell, and tried rush it in the planned shortest route and sequence, no way I can complete it even within 2nd trip.

Even with planned route, this is what at most I can do:
First trip - Fly/Eagle Spell
Second trip - Music Spell
Third trip - Cookie Spell

The time available is too short even in two trips, at least for me.

Anyway, in the Classic KQ3, The Wizard travels longer time, I can easily finish all my spells within the first trip.

You can get the fly/eagle spell + the music spell during your first trip down and then get the mandrake root during your 2nd trip. All of this could be done before the wizard returns from his first trip. This will earn you the GRUDGE award.

Let's get this right on the terminology, seems to be some confusion here
Wizzard = JOURNEY/SLEEP = The time that the Wizzard has his eye of from Alex
Alex =TRIP = The round of trips go to town and back to the mansion

I tried but seems impossbile to get the cookie up before the Wizzard's 1st JOURNEY/SLEEP (around 10 mins of time).

In order to get minimum score, this is what I did and planned

Practically I need three TRIPS to get the Cookie done:

First TRIP:
1. Public Library
2. Done Fly/Eagle Spell

Second TRIP:
1. Cave (Mandrake Root)
2. Seaside (Sea water)
3. Tavern > Bandits (acorn, sand) > Money
4. Store > Ingredients (Fish Oil, Pouch, Lard)
5. Behr's House (Soil, Porridge)
6. Done Music Spell

Third TRIP:
1. Tavern > Lute > Magic Jug > Missing Page
2. Done Cookie Spell

How the hell you can get all the steps above in 10 minutes? I tried and by the time I complete the Cookie, it is already about 25 mins, regardless I save/restore to ensure I get the best of luck on some of the places, memorise/practise all three spells in order to get the shortest time done, I still get the Cookie done under Wizzard's third JOURNEY/SLEEP. How would it be possible everything is done under 1st JOURNEY/SLEEP? How did you do that?

As has been said elsewhere, you can transfer the seawater from your cup to the flask. That lets you complete both the Flight and Music spells after heading down the mountain once and thus can cut you down to two trips down the mountain. If you're fast enough, you can pick up all the remaining ingredients and get the cookie made before Manny returns, especially if you use the magic map or one of the flight forms to speed up your trips. In addition, if you're careful and quick, you can gather the dangerous materials inside the house while Manny's still around; as long as you don't have anything in hand at the times where he appears before you (assigning a task, checking if you've finished, or departing), you'll be fine. I can usually gather everything (save the wand, of course) before his first departure and get it all stowed under the bed without getting caught.

Also, note that if you're looking for minimum points, do NOT eavesdrop on the bandits. Unlike the original game, you get no points for flying into the tree and discovering the rope; that's sufficient to be able to reach in and discover the ladder.

In other words:

FIRST TRIP DOWN
Get the book in the library
Get eagle feather, seawater, sand, earth, and the porridge (this can wait if you must)
Return and complete the Flight and Music spells

SECOND TRIP DOWN
See the oracle
Get the money from the hideout
Buy what you need from the store
Head back up and make the cookie

Be warned; since you always have to use your own spoon in this version of the game, if you want to use the mud rather than having to go back down and get it again later, you must complete the Storm spell before making the cat cookie.

Ok, In my own understanding and arranged in the shortest path possible would be:

First TRIP:
1. Bandits (acord, sand)
2. Behr's House (Soil, Porridge)
3. Public Library
4. River (Mud)
5. Seaside (Sea water)

6. Back to Mansion
6.1 Done Fly/Eagle Spell
6.2 Done Storm Spell
6.3 Done Music Spell

Second TRIP:
1. Bandits > Money
2. Store > Ingredients (Fish Oil, Pouch, Lard)
3. Tavern > Lute
4. Cave (Mandrake Root)
5. Bard > Magic Jug > Missing Page
6. Desert > Cactus

7. Back to Mansion
7.1 Done Cookie Spell
7.2 Done Sleep Spell
7.3 Done Invisible Spell

I just done the game in 37 mins, with score of 178. and I didn't get the Underachiever. I got 128 points before entering the Pirate Ship.

if minum point is 170, then I did 8 points extra.I shouldn't take the following:
1. Bread (1 point)
2. Fruit (1 point)
3. Fish Scale (1 point)
4. Mirror (1 point)
5. Magic Map (3 points)
6. Read the Diary (1 point) (I think this is rather cheating using save > read > restore to 'unread' the diary in order to get 170)

even with the Magic Map, I am only barely made it just before Wizzard came back.
