I keep getting killed by the wizard

What am I doing wrong? I hide everything under the bed. The only item I carry on me is ham.
And I put back the wand where I found it. When I tried to put back the key, it wouldn't let me.
Why does the wizard still kill me the moment he returns for snooping in his things?
Doh, figured it out! I had forgotten to close the closet.
