muddy spoon problem

So I scooped up mud with the spoon a while back. I went to go make the storm spell and it killed me after doing the steps in the right order, right when I got to the part with the muddy spoon. I examined the spoon and it said that the mud had already dried...I'm assuming I need the mud to still be wet/fresh. But I can't re-scoop up any mud. I get an error when I do saying I already have mud on the spoon. How do I clean this thing off and get fresh mud?
[EDIT] Nevermind. I was getting ahead of myself. Read a walkthrough and looks like I didn't need to cast this particular spell at this time. I did another spell that needed the spoon and it automagically cleaned it off for me.
