No Sound in KQ1

#1 Post by Almagnus1 » Sun Feb 26, 2006 9:32 am

Alright, before actually getting into the troubleshooting, just wanted to say thanks for making the remakes of KQ1 & 2, and I'm really looking forward to the QFG2 remake.  However, I ran into a no sound problem for KQ1.  I am willing to bet this is likely a setting not set right.  Details:

System Specs:
  • P4 3.4 GHz
  • 1 GB Ram
  • Sound card is whatever the built in one on this laptop is (laptop is about a year and a half old).
  • Windows XP Pro
  • DirectX 9.0 (c?)
  • KQ1 with both the voice and music packs installed.
Problem:
Sound is not working in KQ1, and I am receving an error message on game start-up (before resolution change).

Error Messages:
  • When "Default DirectSound Device" is selected for the digital device:
Unable to initialize your audio hardware.
Problem: Digital sound driver not found
  • When "Default WaveOut Device" is selected:
Unable to initialize your audio hardware.
    Problem: DIGMID patch not found.
Notes:
Selection of the MIDI Device does not change the error message, only the selection of the wave device.  Also, running the game from the launcher or from the other shorcut from the start menu doesn't affect the error message.

Other settings (that may or may not have an impact):
  • Memory Used: 20 MB
  • Anti-aliasing selected
  • Running at 320x200
  • Use Digital speech and music packs both selected

When your not using the digital packs to the midi sounds play alright?

Also make sure no other programs are open in the background or system tray that could be using the sound card.

Best thing to do would be to try and find some updated drivers or patches for your motherboard soundcard on their website.

Lets see how you get on with that.

(This problem is for KQ1 and 2 or just KQ1?)

Heh, would think otherwise cause the sound card has multiple channels (ie: it can play music via Winamp but still throw sounds from messenger clients) but....

Closed down the Winamp SysTray program, and it works perfectly.

I can get KQ2 to also throw the same errors if that program is open, otherwise, it will work perfectly.

Short of it: they both work fine now, thanks for the help!
