KQ1VGA crashes

#1 Post by pass » Thu Aug 10, 2006 12:31 pm

When I play KQ1VGA, it crashes just after a few minutes of playing. This is really annoying. Did anyone encounter this, or know how to deal with it? The crashes seem to be in random places and at random situations (i don't do anything special when it crashes).
I use win XP pro, and the computer is pretty new. I tried playing in a window, but that didn't solve it (and also it's too small for me to see anything there). Any suggestions?

Do you get an error message when it crashes?

Not from the game - the standard windows error.
Forgot to mention - I use 1280x1024, but even when I lowered it to 1024x768 it crashed.

Are you using a flat panel monitor?

Yes. Now that you mention it, it might also be the cause for a little bit of the screen to be cut off at the sides.

Some flat panel monitors have trouble displaying certain resolutions. It confuses me that the game seems to run fine and then crashes. Usually, the game would refuse to run if the resolution was the problem.

You might try checking the "force alternate letter-box resolution" in the settings... (I think that's the name of the option)

I am using letterbox (if I don't, a much bigger portion of the screen gets cut off).

I'm also using anti-aliasing and 85 Hz (even though my monitor's max is 75 HZ and is now set to 72), do you think that might be the cause?

I used to get that sometimes. Never did work out why. I just redownloaded and installed it and it worked from then on.

Re-downloaded the game - didn't work. Tried starting the game without music or speech packs - still didn't work....  :cry

Are you experiencing the same problems with KQ2VGA?

No. Not only does it not crash, but also the screen isn't cut at the edges.

that's funny....I'm going through the same thing.  KQII doesn't have ANY of these problems...I just figured along the way of doing the second one, they fixed it lmao.  The first one does randomly crash.  I know nothing about this lab top though so I couldn't begin to give you specs.
