6 points for saying "No" to Ferrari

#1 Post by Thepal » Sat Nov 15, 2008 8:14 pm

The 6 points for saying no to Ferrari shouldn't be in there. The original had all the point stuff correct. I just finished with 506 out of 500 for becoming a paladin from a thief.

My understanding was that alteration was added to offset another issue to be certain a Thief-Paladin could end the game with 500 exactly. Of course, ADVRipper4's T-P ending YouTube vid already proved one could end as a Thief-Paladin with 506 points in the original...

In the original, it was possible to break into Issur's shop as a thief (getting points) and still become a paladin, meaning that in order to get full points and become a thief-to-paladin, you had to break into his shop. (it didn't get you disqualified) I added those points at Ferrari's table (which you only get if you didn't break into any place at all) in order to compensate for those, but I suppose I miscalculated somewhere along the way.

Ah. See, I never broke into Issur's in the original when becoming a Paladin.

So I guess AGDI almost fixed that... Except they added another extra 6 in.

Yeah, I redid the math after you posted. Thief-Paladins in the original game cannot:

Fence stolen items (-3)
Break into the Metalworker's house (-3)
Steal the silver tea service (-3)
Oil the hinges on the wardrobe (-3)
Find the emerald bowl (-3)
Get dinars from the chest (-3)
Get the silver dagger (-5)
Enter Khaveen's house (-3)
Oil the hinges on the cabinet (-3)
Get the blackbird (-5)
Show the blackbird to Ferrari (-3)

All total, that's a loss of 37 points. Since the Thief also doesn't get Paladin points for defeating Khaveen honorably (or with Calm), a T-P gets 43 Paladin points at best. Thus, 506 points total. Erpy, you should have just stuck with dropping Issur's points and not added anything. Add it to the list for v1.2 (should one be forthcoming).

6 extra points to the Thief-Paladin.

#6 Post by ADVRipper » Wed Jul 15, 2009 10:22 am

To become a Paladin, you must have achieved an Honor score of at least 75. You must also have at least 25 Paladin Points.

Paladin Points:

Return Omar's lost purse (found in the fountain plaza) (7 PP).

Return Rakeesh's sword without being asked (5 PP). - Fighters only.

Be polite to Aziza and impress her with your manners (don't get kicked out) (3 PP).

Refuse to kill EOF opponent (just say "no") (7 PP). - Fighters only.

Give money to the beggar more than once (5 PP).

Tell Khaveen to retrieve his sword (7 PP). - Fighters only.

You *lose* 10 Paladin Points if you disturb/kill the Griffin. (There is a way to get a Griffin feather without bothering the Griffin.) This
was not supposed to have been a total disqualifier, but it effectively is (since you can get at most 34 Paladin Points prior to becoming a Paladin, and losing 10 reduces you to 24 -- below the limit). Sorry! If we ever do a remake, we'll reduce the penalty to -5.

Fighters = Qualify as Paladin (6 PP).

Magic Users and Thieves = Qualify as Paladin (6 + 12 PP). Note that Wizards and Thieves who manage to qualify as Paladins receive an extra 12 points, since they don't have the opportunity to return Rakeesh's sword or spare the EOF fighter's life.

Be officially recognized (ceremony at end-game) (10 PP).

Use Calm spell on Khaveen (7 PP). - All characters get these 7 points, but thieves get more points for getting a diferent patch to reach Ad Avis. Fighters get more points for defeating Khaveen in a sword fight.

You cannot do the following:

Killing Khaveen when he's unarmed.
Taking money from Omar's purse before returning the purse.
Having to be reminded (by Uhura) to return Rakeesh's sword. (You must return it voluntarily.)
Entering the "breakin house" in Shapeir or Khaveen's house in Raseir.
Trying to kill a helpless opponent in your EOF initiation.

YOU CAN:
Using the X-Ray specs to peep at the princess (Zayishah) changing clothes.

Thief ending = 500 of 500

If you are a thief and want to become a paladin, you can't go inside the "breakin house" in Shapeir or Khaveen's house in Raseir.

"Breakin House" points (Thief only):

Pick lock to Metal Worker's House - 3 points.

Pick lock to Metal Worker's Secret Chest, find $60 - 3 points.

Search Metal Worker's Secret Chest, find Silver Dagger, worth $30 - 5 points.

Oil Door of Metal Worker's Cabinet, get hiding place - 3 points.

Search Metal Worker's Cabinet, find Emerald Bowl, worth $40 - 3 points.

Take Metal Worker's Silver Tea Service, worth $20 - 3 points.

Fence first stolen item with Dinarzad - 3 points.

23 points lost.

Khaveen's house points (Thief only):

Use rope to enter Khaveen's Bedroom - 3 points.

Oil Khaveen's Cabinet Door Hinges, door won't squeak - 3 points.

Take Black Bird from Khaveen - 5 points.

Give Black Bird to Ferrari - 3 points.

14 points lost.

23 + 14 = 37

37 points lost in total.

500 - 37 = 463 Thief Ending Score.

The thief must become a paladin to get more than 463 points.

Return Omar's lost purse (found in the fountain plaza) (7 PP). + 463 = 470

Be polite to Aziza and impress her with your manners (don't get kicked out) (3 PP). + 470 = 473

Give money to the beggar more than once (5 PP). + 473 = 478

Magic Users and Thieves = Qualify as Paladin (6 + 12 PP). + 478 = 496

Be officially recognized (ceremony at end-game) (10 PP). + 496 = 506

Final score of Thief-Paladin = 506 of 500.

And there's the official word from the Ripper. My previous post was dead-on, it would seem.

Update:

You can go to Khaveen's house and still become a paladin.

Are you talking about the remake? Because I checked and the code that disqualifies you for paladinhood is triggered right after you enter Khaveen's bedroom.

I posted a bit in another thread, but I have a q question. If you refuse the first quest to break into the metal worker's house... (with say a fighter with lock picking skills) will you even have a chance at the second opportunity to break into and rip-off Issur. I really don't like Issur, he is not very nice. However, I don't want to do it if it's a deal-breaker on my Paladin replay.

No, you need to do the first break-in job before Dinarzad will let you have the weapon shop burglary.
