lock-up at church

#1 Post by krause59 » Sun Jan 19, 2003 12:32 am

I'm playing KQ2 VGA version 1.1. I leave the church after talking to the monk. The two wolves run past me and I follow them automatically. When the monk starts to talk to them the game freezes, the cursor is stuck but I can hear faint music in the background. Pressing ESC doesn't help. Any suggestions?

Thanks

If you save the game as the wolves run past you, then quit KQ2, then load it again and restore that save game, does the problem still happen? Does it lock up every time?

What screen resolution have you selected in Setup?

lock-up

#3 Post by krause59 » Mon Jan 20, 2003 8:18 am

I did a quick save and a restore when the wolves ran by and that got me past that point without a lock-up, although I missed the monk conversation with the wolves. Everything seems to be working now. I am running the game at the highest resolution possible (I can't remember the exact numbers) Thanks

Ah.

That could be the problem. The 960x600 resolution isn't really supported (I think it'll be gone next version). As the game is actually made at 320x200 resolution, so you can no benefit from selecting a higher one. The middle resolution, 640x400 is there in case your computer really doesn't support the lowest one.

help

Change the cache used. Change the cache used! Bottom of the "Game Options" dialog box, after hitting "Advanced" tab. Mine works fine after changing from 5MB to 20MB.
...How do you defeat the snake after taking the magic carpet ride? When do you talk to the monks? Do you have to wait till it gets dark?

It would really be better to post questions in a new thread and in the KQ2VGA forum.

You don't defeat the snake. You just temporarily do something to it so you can pass. The way snake charmings works isn't by the music, but by the motion of the flute; snakes are deaf...

The church is open from dusk to dawn. You do have to "wait," though in KQ2VGA this means doing other things first. Time doesn't pass in real-time.

Yes, u r right. I planned to post a help to the other user, and got carried away at the thought of actually talking to the monks. The game is addictive. Thanks for the hints, tho. I don't have the flute, and don't know where to get it, but I will eventually.
I did see Batman. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

The KQ2 forum, <a href="http://pub57.ezboard.com/froyalquestfor ... , already has over 4,000 posts. I think it is up already <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)"> .

There's actually no flute in this game. You already have the item you need, but I was trying to hint at which one it was based on what it's supposed to do.

I assume this is another person who's come via the qknowledge website which says that the KQ2 forum is not yet ready. Please people, take that old website down! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

I've discovered the correct forum, and will post there. Thank you!!! Also, since I'm here, I've already put the needle in the reed and am not sure it will work. I'm confused, but am going to the KQII forum. Thanks again!
