My screen is too small? Please help!

#1 Post by Adolen and Murray » Mon Feb 17, 2003 7:09 pm

I recently played and beat KQ2. It worked perfectly. But then I got a new computer and all of a sudden the KQ2 screen is too big for it. I can adjust it a bit, but no matter what I do, some of the top or bottom is cut off and I can't read all the text. My screen resolution is 1024x768, I tried lowering it but it doesn't effect the game no matter what it's set at. Can anyone help?

Hmmm.... that's wierd. Did you adjust the actual setting on your monitor? I.E.-Did you try to move the picture down some?

KQ2 automatically selects it's own resolution to run at, so setting your resolution in windows will do nothing. To change the resolution KQ2 runs at, select "Game Options" from the main menu instead of "Play Game".

Hopefully that helped...

"Without the fleet, the contest would be on our home grounds, and war is one contest in which it is best to be on the visiting team." -ADM Nimitz

Well, I eventually did adjust my screen manually to see the top of the screen (I couldn't see my point value beforehand), but then, of course, I can't see the bottom of the screen. No matter what, it's cut off unless I run it in 960x600, but then it's too SMALL for my screen <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... rassed.gif ALT=":o">

You should have several different controls for your monitor including a stretch and shrink. Meaning you can make it less tall so you can see both top and bottom of the screen. You should also have this option for horizontal screen size. Your monitor stores all this setting information for each and every possible resolution it displays. That's why it will look fine in some resolutions and badly cut off in others. Check your manual for your monitor and try to adjust it and see if that works.

BTW, it is reccomended that you don't play in 960x600 under any circumstances. It is unsupported and you will encounter lots of in-game bugs.

Don't go out the same way you did the last time
You'll break when you fall
Don't make the same mistakes you did all over
You've got to believe in yourself this time

My monitor's flat screen, I don't think there's an option to shrink it, just to adjust the position.

You are playing King's Quest 2 VGA, right?

I had the same problem. Go to the Options Menu and check "Force alternate letterbox resolution." This should center the game so that you can see the whole screen, with black bars on the top and bottom.

And, as stated earlier, try to play it in 320x240, or, failing that, 640x480. Using 960x720 is begging for trouble.

Yes, the letterbox resolution thing worked! Thanks very much for your help, everyone.

you could also run in windowed mode, but then it doesn't take exclussive access to video, PROBABLY slowing it down, since it can't page flip anymore.
