(can you also play in 16 colors on that version?)
No, you cannot.

Well I might as well add Gobliiins to the list for those who may only know about the EGA version, in order to point them to the CD version.  Though I still suspect by looking at those screenshots that the VGA quality artwork came first or was simultaneously released, judging by the single entry on MobyGames and the year of release.

It is really a remake in the same sense as the FM-Towns or CD versions of the early LucasArts games: Not advertised as a remake, same interface, same background layout, same sprites, 240 additionnal colors and better soundtrack. If the LucasArts games found their way on the list, I don't see why this one can't too.

But I recognize it's easier to not consider it as a remake since the selective 16-colors palette, while it's not as good as 256-colors, is an improvement compared to the Default EGA's 16 colors we've been used to see, and we're left to wonder why the disk version, if it was able to use different colors than EGA, didn't use more than 16 colors.

It's most likely due to disk space concerns. Floppies are (were) expensive compared to how much data they can hold, and by using 4-bit colors, you've halved the amount of disk space required for an image - more so if you add some sort of compression, such as RLE.

As for EGA, it did actually have the ability to change palettes (there's a "global" palette of 64 colors) - however, the 320x200 screen mode we usually associate EGA with doesn't support this, and there was still the limit of 16 on-screen colors.

And right back at ya. Even with popups enabled for this site I don't seem to get any notification that I've got a new PM.

As mentioned, I have it unblocked so I should get popups, and even with it blocked I still get a message about a popup whether or not to allow it.

Does it work for you? *sends*

Actually, no it hasn't. I remember now that the pop up never worked for me on these forums.

I actually had a problem like that on another forum.

My advice...check your profile and make sure the Popup option is turned on. :p

Actually you were right, I was unaware that it could be turned on and off in your profile settings. I didn't disable it myself though which is the strange thing about it.

Disable

Nor did I on the other forum.  Although, over there, I think it defaulted to that state.  Email notification was off as well, so unless I noticed the little window stating I had an unread PM, I never got anything.

The 16 color versions were made for the 16-bit machines, like Atari ST and Amiga, which could only display 16 colors on screen at a time from a palette of 256. It's not really EGA.

Sadly, Squadron Six Entertainment isn't remaking Space Quest III anymore. There was a lot of management problems.

However, we did happen to give our source code to IA, I think.

Okay, fixed some "last update" postings and such in the first post.

Notes:
The Colonel's Bequest - any new news on this or any other group working on this in the last year or two?

King's Quest I & II remakes by AGDI - new links pending launch of new site

King's Quest IV - moved to new site, some team changes

Space Quest III - can anyone at IA confirm or deny the possession of the Squad Six's source code?
