Infamous Adventures' Developer Diaries

#1 Post by Broomie » Tue Sep 09, 2008 7:47 pm

One thing we have on our website are the Developer Diaries. These are mainly 'blog' type posts which usually have updates or additions to the currents projects and anything else interesting to add. Much like AGDI's Designer Journals but not as long. ;) One other thing to mention though is that our team members also use the Diaries to post tutorials and videos to showcase not only how we create our work but guides to develop your own sprites, backgrounds and other such game related extras.

Here, I'll link you to a number of different posts which our team members have provided. The reason is because I don't think they get enough spotlight so I thought I'd broaden the horizon a bit and make them known to more people. Although this could be seen as a shameless plug for Space Quest II, I assure you that isn't the intention. It is to gives readers an insight into the creativity and work that goes into a game.

RICH'S TIPS TO SPRITE ANIMATION - Rich Eter
http://www.infamous-adventures.com/inde ... topic=2140
Rich Eter, of F**k Quest fame provides a well detailed look into how he designs his character animation sprites for SQ2 and FQ. A video is provided at the end for the final product!

MAKING MUSIC FOR THE SPACE QUEST II REMAKE - MusicallyInspired
http://www.infamous-adventures.com/inde ... topic=2584
MusicallyInspired who is well known around here gives us an insight into how exactly he designs the music for SQ2, his workstation and equipment needed and the whole process involved overall. Videos are also provided.

A NEW BACKGOUND WITH VIDEO - LilBlueSmurf
http://www.infamous-adventures.com/inde ... topic=2494
A time-lapsed video of a background converted from AGI to VGA by our former, but very talented, LilBlueSmurf. Note, this doesn't indicate we're working on SQ3, it is merely just an example.

DESIGNING THE DESIGNED - Blackthorne
http://www.infamous-adventures.com/inde ... topic=2065
Blackthorne shares his insight on how redesigning or remaking backgrounds can warrant possible changes and additions given the chance we have.

NEW SPACE QUEST II PRODUCTION VIDEOS, DELETED SONG, VOICE ACTING AND MORE - Zeek
http://www.infamous-adventures.com/inde ... topic=2847
Zeek has just released a diary looking at behind the scenes of his music workshop, the equipment used to write his music and a sneak peak at the voice acting as well!

ANOTHER BACKGROUND WITH VIDEO - LilBlueSmurf
http://www.infamous-adventures.com/inde ... topic=2598
LBS again with another time-lapsed video of a background from Project X from a sketch made by another member of the team on paper.

SIDEVIEW WALKCYCLE SPRITE ANIMATION - Rich Eter
http://www.infamous-adventures.com/inde ... topic=2425
Rich records a video of the process in developing a walkcycle animation from scratch. Warning: This animation contains nudity due to it being a FQ animation but nothing of a sexual nature.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JO8vC0yQX3s

These aren't necessarily IA related but they still give a great idea of the process of designing character portraits not only for our games but Rich's games too. Note, these don't contain any partial nudity but it's still wise to watch at your own discretion as I know how people get.

That's it for now! We're expecting a new Developer Diary very soon from Zeek. No details yet on what it's about but you'll get a sneak peak at the voice acting and music!

The purpose of these is to share our experience making these games so not only can people enjoy the process but learn from it as well. The finished product is usually what most people want but to see it in action is another thing altogether. I'll be sure to update this thread with new entries from our team members and if you have any requests than throw them in here.

If you want to see all the entries than click here, but the rest our moreorless updates to our games and general rants rather than anything creative like the posts above but they're still a good read!

Stuff looks awesome. Tried to remake Space Quest 3 a few years back with a friend... we didn't get too far though hehe. Looking forward to it but don't have hi-res portraits with low-res characters and backgrounds again like in KQ3's remake... looked a bit whack.

EDIT: Whoops saw you're not working on SQ3 afterall. SQ2 then... looking forward to that!

I just spent all morning watching these. What a treat! Especially Brandon's music diaries. And Zeek... watch out! what a talent. :P Really professionally made videos throughout. Now I'm even more excited to play Space Quest II.

I'm curious if anyone noticed a strange hidden screenshot.. or what LOOKED like a hidden 1 second flash of a screenshot in the second video from Zeek on this page:

It's right towards the end before we get to see him in-person.

hmm....

great stuff.
