I've played it through a few years ago when I first got it. I don't remember it being such a long or difficult game. If redone, it would definetly need a hugely advanced storyline.

There are sunsets over other oceans my friend. Actually, that's not a bad idea, Gronagor. At the very least, I think she should play a part in the creation.
Pidgeot
-----
Every error you find is the last one.

Here's a ressurection of a thread;

This was intersting and Gronagar DID suggest in this thread that we could make an open team effort to remake this game. I'd be willing to throw my help in, making graphics and doing story and some AGS work.

I think we'd have to reformat the game just a bit, and decide a few things:

DESIGN IDEAS

1) Keep it sorta 1st person picture, or make it 3rd person with an actual movable PC Character? If so, what kind of character should it be? What should it look like?

2) Do we want to use the traditional Sierra Gui, or a different style like verb-coin etc?

Just some ideas, but this might be fun. It could be a leisurely project, and I've always wanted to remake one of the OLD OLD graphic adventure games.

Hmm... Laura Bow?

Well, considering I've seen it somewhere that The Colonel's Bequest owes a lot to Mystery House, it could make sense. Laura Bow might not be a bad character to use.

Does anyone have a layout of the actual story to Mystery House? We could see if it could be adapted to a newer story..........hmm. I'll search myself, too.

Heh. I got all inspired today. I think I'm gonna make this one. I've been working on a design document, based on the original, but I want to ADD a bit more to the plot - as there are very few reasons WHY the people are even there.... and such. A bit of dialogue too, but I don't want to add too much, or change the story drastically. Well, what little story there is. You'll have to solve it JUST like the original Mystery House, but I'll have a little more background and a few new touches that hopefully won't diminish the experience.

I don't think I want to use Laura Bow, though, because I would like to set the game in, 1980..... as an homage to the year of it's inception. Not that the year REALLY matters..... anyway, I will be working on this in addtion to the work I'm already doing at IA, so if anyone wants to help out in ANY minute way, story work, graphic ideas, anything about the game - please do. This can be a group effort, but I'm willing to take the lead share of the work.

Tsk, tsk, tsk. Oh please, honey... Collage technique is as dead as a pet rock. This season pixelart is in vogue, oh yeah baby... :smokin

Pretty nice pic you created there Bt! I almost forgot about this thread...

you have any ideas for the main character?

(LF, nice rip, but I'm almost sure that's not a Victorian-style house... could be wrong though. :) )

Hehe! That is some nice Pixel Art. Totally Mandarb..... but still unique enough. I dig it. I'm working on some more backgrounds for the game... hopefully by the end of the weekend, I'll have a little version goin where you can at least walk between a couple rooms. I'm working on the Entry Hallway now, and I want to do the Kitchen and the Dining room this weekend too.

As for the main character, I have no real ideas yet. I was thinking maybe a Pizza Delivery Dude, or just some college guy. I also toyed with the notion of giving the player a choice to choose between playing a girl or a boy. I still have to work up WHY everyone ended up at the house. The game only says that there are seven people there, and they give their names and hair colors......

Tom-Blond-Plummer
Sam-Brunette-Mechanic
Sally-Redhead-Seamstress
Dr. Green-Brun-Surgeon
Joe-Brunette-Gravediger
Bill-Blond-Butcher
Daisy-Blond-Cook

The game also says the house is abandoned...... so why would they all end up there? I have to come up with some kind of backstory to explain it all - and it has to do with missing Jewels hidden in the house.

As I'm thinking now as I type, perhaps they are just treasure hunters - a criminal recently robbed an armored car carrying jewels, and hid out in the house and hid the jewels.... maybe he was killed in a gun-fight with police and the jewels were never recovered. ONE of the Characters was the robbers romantic partner, but no onne knows who.... that's the killer. Somehow they all decide to go treasure hunting. Damn. Coming up with a plausible story for this game is rough! Hehe. Musta been easy to write games in the late 70's when things like REAL plot didn't matter. I'll keep working.

Very nice. :) Needs some slight edits, but this style is very unique. :)

(Edits like... perhaps stretching the doors a bit. If you compare the chairs and the people who sits on those chairs the doors will be a little small.)

They look nice, but they are tilted to the right. I guess the house is falling into a sinkhole or something. :lol
