QG4 Screenshot request

#1 Post by Senic » Mon Aug 02, 2004 1:41 am

Would someone be able to post the screenshot from QG4 of the entranceway to the castle? I can't find it in the game, but I know that it is in the game, the sene where the hero is sneeking towards the door and ad avis is watching him.
Also, does anyone know if the coles edited anything out of the game like the saurus repair shop in QG2?
Thanks a bunch,

The entryway screen is displayed in two instances:

- If the fighter enters the castle at night by forcing the gate and killing the necrotaurs. (Ad Avis won't be there in that case)

- If you return to the castle with all 5 rituals. (Ad Avis and Katrina will be on the parapets)

I noticed wizard's game instructions in the QFG4 manual, but no minigame was in the game. I guess that was one thing that didn't make it.

Using the QFG4 Demo, I decoded it with SCI Decoder, and I got this castle image. It's used in the final game. There is no Ad Avis or Katrina in this shot.

Hey, just curious, but what program did you use to get that pic? I use SCI Decoder VGA, and it works fine with KQ5, SQ4, and a lot of other games, but what do you use to show the picture? I might just ask Bripro about this. I can rip sprites just fine. But I can't rip pictures. I use XP, which doesn't let me use PRNTSCRN or anything like that in DOS. Stupid XP.
So sorry if I got off-topic. Just curious.

There are screen-capture utilities for taking screens from DOS things under Windows XP. Can't remember any, though.

Of course, you could also just run it through DOSBox and take a screenshot of that window.

Okay, It's sort of a stupid Question, but how do you make DosBox run a program?

One of the easiest ways is to simply, using a Windows DOS prompt, type in DOSBOX c:\games\qfg4\sierra.exe - that is, supply the full path and filename of the executable you wish to run. DOSBOX will set up that directory as a dummy drive C and run the game. Or from the Windows desktop you can use Run and specify the path/filename of dosbox followed by the path/filename of the game executable to run

Thanks for the shot, I've been toying with the idea of a sequel to QG4, to take care of some of the loose ends left at the end. I'm getting a good start on the artwork first though before I announce anything.

Senic, that sounds like a cool idea. Good luck with it.

animations

#12 Post by Senic » Sun Aug 15, 2004 6:05 am

Could someone give me some advice on how to do some animations? I can draw them and scan them in, but I'm having a horrible time getting the characters to look like they are from a sierra game, IE shading, number of colors and the like.
Would I have better luck drawing them on the computer instead of scanning them in?

load a sierra character with the graphics program , use it as a reference and pixel by pixel draw the new sprite with the graphics program.
