A New Project Arises

#1 Post by Music Head » Fri Aug 20, 2004 6:53 am

Last night i was bored so i thoght and thought and thought. Than suddenly an great a idea came to me a wonderful, brilliant idea. Which was to make a game called BACK TO NOW.

Story:
You are some guy called Marvin who is friends with a crazy doc. This crazy doc manages to invent a time machine (sound farmiliar). Anyway he decides to habe you test it and you get shot right back into the first KQ game. And of course your spaceship breaks so now u must travel through all the old games of KQ, SQ and QFG to get back home.

Why It's Great:
It's great because i don't need to draw any backgrounds cos there already there. All i gotta do is draw objects and stuff.

Why It's Great Again:
Cos i thought of it

Whatdo you guys think of this new progect???????

I think projects need more thought placed into it before being started or even announced. Did you think up a suitable story already?

Um, ah, Not really but getting there. I'm just so overwhelmed i thought of an idea like this all by myself (after watching "back to the future" for school). I'm gonna put alot of work into it now and work out the outline of the story and necessary charectors/objects.

I'll give you guys an outline soon.

I think it's a wonderful idea and premise. I've heard mentions of this before - but I recommend you turn this from a good idea into a solid game.

Write an outline of what you want to have happen first... like

PART I - DOC'S LAB

- You enter, Doc tells you he's invented a new time machine. You test it.

- Something goes wrong, you end up in the land of Daventry

- Doc can communicate to you through a special Walkie Talkie he made, and he helps you leap through areas to get home.

-------

and so forth. This helps you to write the actual script of the game.

Good luck! Remember, game making isn't easy, no matter what - and it IS slow going at first. But persevere and you'll have fun!

Is it going to be in Super EGA?

Try B&W colors for starters. It's even easier. :|

Story So Far

INTRO:
The doc calls you to his lab
As you enter the lab the doc comes running over to u "i've created a special device... A TIME MACHINE."
Looking around you see no such thing. The doc holds out his hand and gives you a small watch.
"All you have to do is type in the correct" and off you go to the past, future and present." The watch has alot of symbols to push all very small and most too small to read. The doc pulls out another small device from his pocket and attaches it to the watch. "This is my communicator. Use it to call m in real emergencies. The watch will be ready to test in just amatter of days." But you being very inpatient pull out a pen from your pocket and start pushing buttons.
"NO!!" shouts the doc "It's not ready but it is too late you are shot into KQ1.

GAME PART 1:
Now that would be telling. You'll have to wait and see.

LIL GAME INFO
res: 800x600 (backgrounds from the older games will be the same eg. KQ1 bgs will look exactly the same res.
Interface: Sierra Standered.

What you Think. remember this is only very rough

I would stick with game res at 320x200. The games you want to use are made for this interface.

And as for creating games in AGS, it is easier to use 320x200. Over ambition always states some crazy resolution when it is not required for such a game. The detail level of the graphics do not deem it's usage.

320 x 200 I think BlackThorne means, but he's right. The games you're planning on ripping from are mostly made with this resolution so it's probably the one to go for.

I want to use a high res for the charectors, text, but most importantly the Intro of the game and the end which is this present time. The resoulution will help show how far back in time you are eg. bgs and objects will look really blockey in old games and great in later.

you are gonne have a hard time displaying various resolutions in the same game. You'd better stick with 320x200, and adjust the "blockyness factor" with the diameter of the pencil/brush.

For example if you set and draw with diameter 2 pencil/brush in 320x200 , it is like having a virtual 160x100 resolution.

(you have to be careful though , and not having overlapping pencil tracks, as this is going to provide 320x200 resolution even with diameter 2.I am not sure if i expressed it well. I can provide a graphical example if you want.)

Actually, you can have a 320x200 background loaded in a 800x600 game. You just have to resize the smaller background before importing it.

As he said, this will allow him to use the old blocky backgrounds with sharper, more defined character sprites.

From what I can tell, this will give an effect similar to a real person walking around in Toon Town (like in Roger Rabbit).

Well, like I said before, I get the 800x600 representing modern day, which is a cool idea, but you need to make sure your execution is excellent.... meaning use the resolution to it's full detail, and use. Otherwise it's just a waste.

Or perhaps a better example would be SQ4 Roger Wilco walking around on SQ1 backgrounds. :p

Heh. :) The main character should be someone very different from the rest. A beach-bum or something.

That would rock! Beach Bums as characters rock. Man, he'd be fun to Voice Act.
