Art skills needed.

#1 Post by Alias » Mon Aug 30, 2004 11:29 pm

I need an additional artist for my project, I don't want to reveal anything here, and so if you can do backgrounds like these:
http://www.infamous-adventures.com/qfi.html

Please PM me, the engine is AGS, the colours would be 13-bit, and the resolution can be compromised. :)

So please give me a call. Thanks.

Hmm... you are not the first one who needs especially background artists to a game project.

Obviously there is generally a big shortage of good artists?

Heh, you can never have enough artists. Unlike scripters, they can often work on separate parts of the game without tripping over each other.

Btw, Rog, it's unlikely someone's going to be interested if they don't even know what exactly you're trying to create.

Yes, Why?

Well I don't want to give out any info to the public *if* an artist comes by she/he might be interested.

I dont think that there are any around here, I tried it myself but those kind of graphivs are not my thing. :cry :cry :cry

As said

#7 Post by PValiant » Tue Aug 31, 2004 11:16 am

As said before by others, what should interest them enough to spend a lot of time in your project?. There is very little known, other than your posts in these forums.

You've displayed you are not skilled enough in vga backgrounds yourself, yet do not show any other skills. This isn't a problem per se, but i wouldn't laugh at someone else for posting a question about game creation.

Everyone has to start somewhere and i would advise to work on your skills first (perhaps with helping out at other projects) before starting your own project. That said, if you want serious reactions from artists, you better give them something to think about. Tell about the project, show them some of your work and prove that you are worthy of their attention.

I personally think that was unnecessary, Zeus. Please don't start baiting people around here. Because eventually, someone may see you as a potential target to sic a goat on.

Well for one my project has been in development for more than 6 months, mainly working on the script and getting some concept art done by some good artists. I am good at programming in AGS, I'm a writer for my project along with 2 other people, I have 1 full time artist and 2 part time, I have a very good animator (He has vanished for a week though) We have some good sprites and stuff like that.

We have loads of concept art that the artists will colour at 13-bit colour and compromised resolution. Well what more do you want to know? It's based after Space Quest 4, about his time at the academy and letting him explore other planets freely. So what else? I just need some artists; I don't want a cartoon style like Kings Quest 7 or Space Quest 6. If someone would show interest and we could compromise the styles and resolutions.

Well I dont think there are artists avaliable? IF so please so post a replay! :(

I think in order to attract people, you'll need to show this concept art, some excerpts from your script and a few scripted rooms. People will have a clearer idea of what exactly you're talking about.

Scripted rooms? You mean a demo?

I have sprites, GUI's, consept & script/story/plot. I have no demos or anything like that yet. animated GIF's of sprites maybe? But you can have SQ5 sprites with a SQ 6 background if you know what I mean. :\

Yes, I mean a demo, even if it only contains 2 or 3 rooms. People will understand if it's not much to look at, because you're asking for artists to change that.

There is really no point in a demo because the consept it black and white and drawn. Not rooms but for cutscenes. But if they want to see a blank background and the AGS roger I'll go for it. :p

Well anyway thanks for the advice, I still dont think anybody would bother even if I had more info, but who knows, I'll edit the post tomorrow and get some scrip and stuff like that. ;)

I assembled the Quest For Infamy team here..... by putting together ideas, thoughts and showing some work.

You really have to show people you have direction. No one follows somebody without a compass.

Yeah, I signed up with IA after seeing the QFI script outline and knowing I could write a HECKUVA lot better than BT. :p

problems

#22 Post by bartonjo2 » Wed Oct 06, 2004 8:33 pm

One problem that confronts everyperson who wants to make a adeventure/ags game is backgrounds. The thing is there are few artists that actually browse the forum. A lot of the artists in this world unfortunately do not know about adventure games and the such and so do not visit the site. A lot of them spend more time doing art than using the computer as well so it makes it difficult to find these people over the internet. I tried to do my own backrounds, skethcing and then coloring in on the computer but i think it works better to paint them and then touch them up on the computer, unfortunately I cant paint.
