Rog, could you motivate your comments? Remember that most jokes at the expense of other people's creative outings are more likely to be hurtful than they would normally be.

I just noticed that the tomb says LaCroix on it.  Corby, are you dying?  Is that why this game project is progressing so quickly?

Nice snow pic btw.  I wish that if you played QFG4 long enough that it would actually get cold and snow.

Try fiddling with the dials on your monitor - it'd get you a white screen :)

It says "Corby LaCroix Lies Here"... I didn't think anyone would make that out. The snow scene was just something I did in class for fun.

Lol, i might be wrong but that tree in the bottom screenshot looks like the tree of the dead on the movie Sleepy Hollow by Tim Burtom. (the one that's curved on the backround)

Haha, it is. I've never seen the movie, but used this tree as a reference after finding it on the net under "scary tree". Guess you could consider this an easter egg?

Small update: Our heroine has a new look. You can take a look in this small demo (4 megs):

Hope she doesn't look too skinny this time :)

Not bad, but where can I exit the first screen?

There was also something wrong with winsetup.exe. I couldn't run it.

You seem to have used a sprite from indiana jones, the fate of atlantis. Eiether that or it resembles Sophia's sprite a whole lot. My advice would be too change the sprite a lot more and make it more unique.

Using unique material looks better imo

I don't think it's Sophia-based; I think it's based off of the Zanthia sprite from the second Legend of Kyrandia game, The Hand of Fate.  Regardless, PValiant is right; you should try and customized the sprite more so it's similarity to previous games is less apparent.

The sprite was based on Kyrandia, not Indiana Jones.

Thanks Rog, and Blackthorne is right. I've found that sprites like that take about 3x longer to make than background pics. It took me 3 days of work to complete it, and I never want to make one again! The heroine is a modified Zanthia, but I felt I modified her enough to make it somewhat original. Although I expected fans of the Kyrandia series to reconize her. I'm positive she'll have more changes in the future, but for now, I'm satisified. I have new respect for sprite animators though. They certainly do the most work. :)

Heroine's Quest has a brand new demo to check out:

Not a final version however. We plan to release a more polished version later on.
Let us know what you think, and if you find any bugs.

Enjoy!

I have downloaded and already played this game. Great work Corby, I really like it. I am looking forward to see the rest of the game. Now AGDI has a real competitor for game of the year well that depend if they are going to release their game in this year.

I wish AGS would support feathering, it would make sprites look much less ruff.

The smooth scaled sprites feature helps though. trouble is, at low resolutions that doesn't look so good.

Incredible work! :) :D

My own animations are nothing when compared with those in your game.
