Chris: Stat maxing is an RPG addict's thing. It's not necessary to beat the game, to be sure, but some people (like myself) enjoy getting the most out of the gaming experience and stat maxing is a way to do that.

And an hour for stat maxing isn't really that bad if you consider some of the other RPGs around. Some people will max all of their stats in Final Fantasy X, a game that can be beaten with little trouble in less than 30 hours, and spend 100 hours or more doing so. There are optional bosses that are much more difficult than the ending boss, but stat maxing isn't necessary to beat them either. Some players just do it for the fun of it! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

~Wolfgang

With the QFG series though, it is best to max your stats. for the next game and makes the one you're playing easier.
The Knight

I did sometimes try to max everything, but with my current game, I've just been trying to max most things. The stats are what makes QfG different from most adventure games. Instead of taking an hour or so to replay, it can take a whole day if I'm maxing things.

And for me, it's hard not to max things unless I'm purposefully trying to avoid them (in which case I end up being horribly weak <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":p"> ).

I'm a maxing maniac. I max out all my spells and stats. before beating the game.
The Knight

In some Sierra games...

... you're asking for problems if you don't max your stats. You'll either spend half your time running away from monsters (and losing health and stamina), or you'll spend a fortune on health / vigour potions or the equivalent...

But the fun with these games is that the stat maxing is a means to an end - it's not THE end... (In my opinion, anyway)

Hast thou couragious fire to thaw the ice of frozen North discoveries? and thrise Colder than Salamanders, like divine Children in th'oven ...

I rarely maxed my stats. I trained just enough during the first couple of days to do fine with all the quests lateron in the game.

<td nowrap style=filter:glow(color="mintcream", strength=#+15)> Lira Lindriel - - - - - - - Magic is real - unless defined integer!

Backyard Discussions ~x~ Lira's Duchy ~x~ My poems, stories and tags

In QFG1 I try to max my stats, but as I go along to the other games I just get lazier and max SOME of the stats.
I noticed in 1 if you can use magic, you really dont HAVE to fight. Possibly with the thief too but I'm not sure about the minotaur.

It was really not necessary to bump this thread after nearly two years of inactivity.

heh i remember choosing the thief so i could max out all my skills. Then my disapointment at the fact i couldnt get lockpicking or climbing to 100. Then finding out myself how to do it. Ahh memories
