It's not shut down. I'm positive it'll be back again within the very near future. Well, the "coming SOON" says all, does it not?

sierra games are not hard to find, I know forum policy prevents us from posting links to abandonware sites but a little google searching will lend you most of sierra games for free download.

I've always thought it was kind of unnecessarily cruel to shut down the abandonware sites that host sierra games. After all the vast majority of people trying to download those games are people who actually paid full price for them years ago and just want to check out the game again. I can understand Tierra's stance on posting links here considering the tendency of web hosting companies to delete every single file associated with abandonware from time to time. But since sierra no longer sells the old games and most of us already paid full price for them in the past, I don't see what the big deal is.

Agreed. And I'm also glad to see a bit of activity over at Himalaya Studios again!

Hmm it also depends on the time how soon it will be opened again.

Just out of curtiosity what was at this site before it was temporarily shut down? Also although I understand AGDI's stance on abandonware I do find it interesting that there are several topics on sierragamers website about it and Ken Williams does not seem to have a problem with people downloading the games. If the original owner has no problem with it... why should vivindi?

Himalaya Studios was AGD1's site for a commercial adventure game. It wasn't shut down, but taken down because the project was in a dormant stage. Himalaya Studios' games does not infringe on anyone's copyrights/trademarks. It's a completely original game.

Further, Ken Williams may (as the original owner) have no problems with it, but VU is the legal owner, which makes quite the difference.

If I got the package he (Ken) got I wouldn't care about people changing my work either!

If I had to pay that much for all the Sierra rights (VU), I wouldn't be happy with people stealing these rights (no matter how minor it seems).

Yep, she has. And with a bit of luck, she'll share some travelling stories from Africa with the rest of the world.

Vu didn't pay for rights really; they just bought Cendant.

And what do you think they paid FOR when they bought that company? Its coffee machines and office chairs? ;)

The value of a company is partly determined by the franchises they own and/or publish. So yes, VU directly paid for those rights.

The only persons I'd trust to give a true release date would be the AGD's, or perhaps Erpy. And they aren't saying.

Well the release date in the QFG2VGA section of the site still says "sometime in 2004"... I would assume they would change it if they were sure it would be later.

If it was shut down, it wouldn't say "coming soon", would it?

Is everyone so braindead here that you HAD to say it twice?

Besides, if you want to take a gander at what WAS there - use the Internet WAYBACK MACHINE.

You should offer a competition for who can guess QFG2VGA release date. Each person bets on a specific date and obviously the closest match wins.
