Top 10 things you dislike!

#1 Post by Charlemagne » Thu Oct 28, 2004 7:22 pm

I have a feeling that this may be even more entertaing than Broomie's thread. :) I'll get us started. Here are my top 10 dislikes:

Telemarketers: I used to be one for a while; I know what bottom-feeders they are

Fundamentalists: don't get me started on these guys!

Websites that suck: go to http://www.websitesthatsuck.com to see what I mean; basically anything with lots of frames, "mystery meat" navigation (do I click here? here?), or "best viewed in Internet Explorer at 800x600" gets thumbs down from me

The righteously indignant: these are people who go off on a rant whenever the slightest little thing offends their sensibilities or is so obviously wrong; they're rarely interested in a real argument and use any response as an excuse to continue ranting; fortunately I don't meet many people like this

Bigots: I don't even like being in the same room with them

Americans who think all Canadians say "aboot": only a few east-coast Canadians say it that way :)

Pat Buchanan: he's been persona non grata in my books ever since his "Soviet Canuckistan" comment a few years ago

Spam: if I ever want "super hot Asian bondage babes!!!", a penis enlargement or $25,000,000 from a Nigerian bank account I'll find out where to get them on my own, thank you very much!

Dereferencing a null/void pointer: if you don't know how to progam in C you can skip this one

Windows XP: I have to play games in it but I don't have to like it :)

Let's see...

Telemarketers - didn't use to be one, but they're still annoying as hell

Fundamentalists

Bad websites (especially those coded in Word and saved unfiltered)

Righteously indignant

Bigots

Spam - I DON'T need to "stop debt the Christian way" (whatever THAT's supposed to mean :rolleyes ) or "preeeeescription pain killlllllers", thank you very much.

People who believe to know better about something, despite not knowing ANYTHING

Vandals - internet-wise or "IRL"

4Kids - I prefer my anime scripts translated correctly, instead of throwing the original script in a blender and using THAT for the script (compare POKéMON)

And lastly, I am not too fond of Denmark's appearant dislike towards Japanese culture - very little anime and manga can be bought in Denmark, and most of it is imported from the U.S/England. They are improving, though.

These are in no particular order. And yes, it's very honest and storngly opinionated. You asked for top 10, and by golly, you're getting them.

1. Conformists.

2. People who Stereotype Americans. We're not QUITE as dumb as many people would think. And no, out president's attitude toward anything at any given time is not a reflection of the opnions of our citizens.

3. For the protection of people's feelings, I will not say number 3, because it is very strongly opinionated and may offend people. But I can't just forget about it, so it's getting a mention anyway.

4. Reality TV. Reality is what happens on the opposite side of the TV.

5. People who rip on Gay people. Sorry, what happens behind their doors is of no one else's concern. You're not going to see it, so why the hell does it matter? If people are offended by gays, they should just not watch gay pornos. Easy enough.

6. People who feel the need to validate themselves by being in a relationship and/or those who pressure others to get into a relationship. No law of the universe says we all HAVE to reproduce. No rule says we have to pursue any kind of romantic relationship.

7. Drunk people. You wont see my down that road. I'd prefer not to sacrifice myself on the alter of dignity.

8. Women who think they are fat. Um yeah. You're supposed to have excess weight on your hips, thighs, and butt. Live with it. Studies show men are more attracted to curvy women with some meat on their bones anyway. It shows you're health.

9. People who are easily swayed by appearance.

10. Those who can't accept the fact that I live in a non-conformist world. My beliefs and influenced only by me and those whom I am most close to.

You have a very interesting list TakariFreak, some items of which, I think, deserve comment.

TakariFreak wrote:3. For the protection of people's feelings, I will not say number 3, because it is very strongly opinionated and may offend people. But I can't just forget about it, so it's getting a mention anyway.
Heh. We're all big boys and big girls. I'm sure we can handle it without being too offended. :D
TakariFreak wrote:4. Reality TV. Reality is what happens on the opposite side of the TV.
Nice to meet a fellow reality TV hater! :D
TakariFreak wrote:No law of the universe says we all HAVE to reproduce.
No, but it is a biological imperative. The fact that we're sexually prolific is one of the reasons we've become the dominant species. Of course, some also say that it's a huge drawback--look at how quickly we consume natural resources. Nonetheless, we all have a sex drive and it can be hard to ignore at times.
TakariFreak wrote:8. Women who think they are fat. Um yeah.
To be fair, though, some women (and men) actually are fat. Obesity is one of the fastest-growing health problems in North America, especially among young people, largely due to the "fast food diet".
TakariFreak wrote:1. Conformists.

Interesting. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "non-conformist world". You seem to suggest that blanket non-conformity is a good thing. If so, I disagree. I contend that civil society could not exist without all of us observing at least a modicum of conformity: we conform to laws; we conform to taboos; we conform to the "unwritten rules" of society (which often vary widely between them). In what way is general non-conformity a good thing, if that's really what you mean? Personally, I can think of a few specific examples of non-conformity which might seem "good" or "creative" but I'm interested in what you think. Why an entire world of it?

As long as its not to much excess weight on your thighs, hips etc. I mean its best to be healthy and not carry around weight that you don't need there.

I'm a very healthy person, I'm slim, fit and eat well which I am proud of but I still have little niggles like most people out there where I think " I wish my thigh were a bit slimmer" but thats just ordinary, generally around "that time of the month" even though every day feels like that right now lol :)

1. Militant religious fanatics, missionaries, people that try to infect others with their ideologies.
2. When the neighbor listens to the same song ten times in a row every other hour.
3. Closed-mindedness.
4. Broccoli, Tofu :x
5. War of the Worlds (the original movie).
6. Cold.
7. Forums (posts, therads) that look like chat transcripts.
8. Long distance "relationships".
9. People who pretend to know much, but instead clumsily reveal their ignorance.
10. Fraternities, sororities and other similar exclusive societies.

Conformity I see as conforming to something SIMPLY because EVERYONE ELSE DOES. And I don't mean stuff that we all do like written laws and important things that we must conform to in order to keep a civil society that can work. Those I belive are necessary (to an extent) for society to function, as you said. But that's not the type of confomity I was trying to get at.

I mean things like superficial things. Fads and things, if you will, among other things. Comformity that is not required to for a basic civil society to exist on the very basic levels.

Remember Kat from 10 Things I Hate About you? She was a Non-conformist. She even said herself...she fully believes in doing things for her OWN reasons and not someone else's. THAT kind of non-conformity is what I'm referring to. The opposite applies to my view of conformity.

And I know about biological processes. The laws of the universe would LIKE us to reporduce, but it's NOT manadatory. I dislike the people who seem to think otherwise.

And I'm not going to reveal number 3. I know for a FACT that a few are going to be DEFINATLY offended by what it is. And for their sake, I will not relveal it. One of you out there DOES know what it is though. And no, you'll not break me on who that is.

2. cold weather. i despise it. one of the reasons i strongly desire to move to California.
3. my mother's attitude towards change. she refuses to accept it. at all. and it's extraordinarily frustrating.
4. my college's administration. it is so dreadfully incompetant.
5. close minded people, in general. close minded conservatives, liberals, (yes, there is such thing), they all piss me off.
6. George W. Bush
7. Migranes. oh lord, they're debilitating.
8. people who can't take "no" for an answer.
9. adults who are perfectly capable of taking care of themselves, but refuse to do it. (i.e., my former roommate)
10. dishonesty. nuff said.

In no particular order, (sorry Broomie, this game is much more fun than yours... :lol)

1 - People who THINK they have a migrane. (This isn't a dig at Steffi who mentioned it, obviously she has real migrane's to have put it on her list.) "Oh, I have a migrane I need an aspirin." Thats not a bloody migrane you moron. Thats a headache. A migrane is when it's so bad you want to rip your own head off to stop the pain, light hurts you, any sound hurts you, you need something like Morphine / Codine / Pethadine to get rid of the pain, or you throw up from the pain. If you haven't experienced one of these symptons, then it's probably not a migrane.

2 - People who write lists.

3 - People who refuse to be involved in the political process then complain about crappy government. Hey Florida, less than 40% of you voted last time, stop bitching.

4 - Gays who make a point of letting you know they're gay. Seriously, I really don't care to be honest if you are or not. Don't make a point of it, us straight people don't go about saying "Hi I'm Klitos and I'm straight!" (Bit simplified there, but you get the point.)

5 - Mods who edit my posts to make themselves feel superior.

6 - Greenies. I respect the environment too, but you people are freaks. Shower, shave and dress respectably and I might listen to what you have to say.

7 - Adware. Is this legal? Why when I boot up IE I need to install a crapload of other software to stop this shit coming up? I hate it. Bill Gates, do something please?

8 - Ringing a call centre for a bank or phone company and speaking to someone in India (no lie there, I spoke to some woman in India the other day.) Or even worse, speaking to someone who can't speak english well. If you live here, learn the fucking language.

9 - People who hang shit on asians. I have a lot of small businesses in my area that are owned by asians (mostly Korean's) and they are awesome people who work hard. So back off you redneck halfwits.

10 - People who say Bill Clinton was a bad president without looking at the facts and base that assumption solely on one mistake he made.

Well as we are "all big boys ang girls here", I must say my list of things I don't like is not very freindly at all, please don't get too mad, as I am just stating my honest opinions, as biast as they may be...in no particular order...

1- People who are obsessed with an Asian culture (oh I know quite a few, and I hate them to hell)

2- God

3- People who believe in God and try to impress upon me that he is real and im going to hell, just because I want to totally obliterate an entire country, people plants and buildings, im talking the entire population, in a shower of nuclear explosions (not saying which country)

4- People who complain about anything even vaguely political

5- Certain cultures and/or races

6-
9 - People who hang shit on asians. I have a lot of small businesses in my area that are owned by asians (mostly Korean's) and they are awesome people who work hard. So back off you redneck halfwits.
People who make fun of southerners. I mean honestly, they should have won their independence

7- Punk, Emo, Ska, Grunge, any other crappy music

8- People who try too hard to act cool or something (for example, a kid in my school who tries to act tough and claims his mother is dead and he lives on his own. not more than two days later, he is talking about how his mom won't give him lunch money...fag)

9- People who say drugs are bad if they have never tried them

10- That girls never make the first move (least none I have been with)

kiltos - amen to that. one of my frat sisters constantly says she has migranes, and then she'll go and blast music or drive a car or what have you. it's like, uh, when i get one, i can't do anything or i throw up. i have to go into a dark room where it's quiet, and be left alone. i had great prescription medicine for it, but it cost something like $80 for 3 pills, so yeah. it was weird stuff, though ... it made my skin hot, so when i'd shower, it would be painful. but i totally concur with those who say they have migranes becuase it sounds "cool"

5- Certain cultures and/or races
We're only human. We're allowed to be different. If we all confromed to exactly the same things, then the world would suck. It's human to dislike as well, but why hate the whole culture or the whole race? Culture I can more understand to a small extent, it it severly conflicts with your own personal morals or something, but RACE? We can't chose that. I can't help being white any more than a Kenyan can help being black or a Thai person from being Aisan or anyone else being the race they are.

This is an interesting thread, but I can see it going in a direction of getting offensive to people. Please consider everyone else before you post. If this thread does go down that path, it will be locked/deleted.

People who THINK they have a migrane.
I know what you mean!! I really really hate that so much.

With my migraines I go blind, sick, throbbing headache that you just want to rip your head off, numbness and delirious.

Its really bad and lasts for around 8 - 9 hours. I hate people who say they have them when they don't.

1. Intentional stupidity. I don't mind ignorance, but I mind people being dumb.
2. People who have no regard for express lanes at grocery stores. Who either have WAY too many items (I don't mind someone who has, say 14 items in a 10 item or less lane) or buy cigarettes or write checks or do something else that defeats the purpose of the express lane
3. People who expect everyone else to like what they like, to the same level that they do. Folks who like sports for example, they ASSUME that everyone else loves it as much as they do (no offense to the sport guys on this board, y'all are ok so far ;) )
4. Drama Queens.. 'nuff said.
5. umm...having trouble here...umm...oh yes, getting woken up by a 6-9 week old kitten NIBBLING ON MY TOES!!! (This is a truely horrific way to wake up, especially when it is 4-5 persian kittens doing it)
That is about it, if I come up with more I'll edit

1 - People who get offended by things.
- Grow a sac. Seriously, the world isn't fair, you're going to die, and people are going to make fun of you. People are going to suck, people are going to be mean - deal. For all of that, there ARE people who are geniunely nice, caring and non-subversive. You give power and creedence to those who would offend by trying to opress them. You give weight to what they are doing, because their whole intention is to bother you, and trying to stop that gives confirmation to the fact that they HAVE bothered you, thus achieving their goal.

2 - Censorship - goes with the first one. We can be civil. Let people make their own choices. Eventually, they peter out because offense runs out of steam easier.

3 - Pretentiousness - get the hell over yourself. There's always someone better, who gives less of a crap than you. Just do what you like, and leave it at that.

3 - Turncoats - believe in what you will. Believe in yourself. Just don't stop doing it one day and run the opposite direction.

4 - SOCIAL Conformity - as with what Takari said, conformity bothers me, but it's more the SOCIAL CONFORMISTS, who let magazines, TV, and films dictate soley what they like. For instance, MTV tells you what to like if you are a teen - ie Avril Lavigne sucks. She does. She's so mediocre, it's unbelieveable. BUT she was marketed heavily in magazines, and the video was put into heavy rotation on MTV till she inundated the country. I mean, really - there was a time where "Complicated" was only showing a few times a week, and they hit the saturation level BIG TIME till you couldn't remember a time when she wasn't popular? But who was the popular rebel girl before her? What did everyone shake their fist in the air, and wear tank tops and declare how cool they were? OH YEAH IT WAS GWEN STEFANI AND NO DOBUT IN 1996 - REMEMEBR "I'M JUST A GIRL"????? Retreads of trends bother me too. In fact, a lot bothers me.

5 - Women - controversy ensues. You've had the right to vote and equal human rights in the US for less than 100 years. Will you EVER MAKE A DECISIVE DECISION THAT DOESN'T CONCERN WHAT TOP GOES WITH WHAT BOTTOM???? Side note, not all women are like this. But many are, and that seems to be a societal standard today. Elizabeth Cady Stanton didn't hold placards in the street so Paris Freaking Hilton could have an auto-biography ghost-written for her so she could offer nuggets like "Of course I live in fear of pimples... I mean, who doesn't?" or "Never wake up before 10. That's for normal people, and you never want to be normal......"

OKAY. I must stop here before my head explodes.

I agree so much with that one. I also don't like the women who say "the world would be better if women ran it", which is in fact a load of BS. Every month some little country would get nuked... and I'm sure little countries don't want that.

Well its true that we can't chose who we are, but we can choose who we don't like. The main reason I dont like "certain cultures and/or races", is mostly from negative experiences I have had with them. One apple spoiled the bunch I s'pose

Who or what the hell is Van Morrision? I'm white and I don't dance to that, whatever it is. No, I couldn't have even unknowingly danced to it. I don't dance period.

As for a list of the top ten things I dislike, I could never come up with a definitive ten, since my peeves/dislikes tend to change from day to day. You know, one day you don't really mind something, and the next day that something happens to you and now you feel like you hate it more than anything else in the world? Hence, I will not make a list, but I will say that I hate dance clubs/discotheques. Modern 'dancing' at these places is nothing more than a throng of horny singles gyrating and undulating their bodies against one another in simulated sex-acts to crappy pop and/or techno music. Okay, I know I'm ranting so I'll stop now.

1) periods
2) people who bash me for being Christian and straight edge. I understand that there are people out there who don't believe in God, but why get mad at me because I do? Also, why is it not okay with those people that I don't need drugs or alcohol to be happy?
3) High School. I can't wait till I graduate, people are so cruel to eachother. I can't believe how much people stab eachother in the back.
4) diarrhea. it sucks
5) being sick
6) annoying people(especially John Kerry and this one girl in my chemistry class)
7) when one girl sings really loud and overpowers the rest of the soprano section in choir.
8) mushrooms. disgusting.
9) term papers, reports, finals, SATs, all of that crappy stuff
10) pop music (good charlotte, avril, most rap music)
