How it should be changed?
Well, you did notice blue and green glow on the trees, did you?

Perfect. It can compete with AGDI's collages as well. ;) I'd make a background layer (like distant jungle & sky) though, it looks too dark.

I liked the green and blue glows.  It gave the jungle an exotic feel.  Remember, this is an alien world, where things aren't as they are on Earth,

That is a Space Quest Theme, and an old sci-fi theme, to 'tweak' what exists on Earth.  If you play SQ1VGA by Sierra, you see that Kerona is a desert, but the sand and sky have a reddish-orange hue to them, instead of the more traditional 'yellow' sand feel of an Earth desert.  Keep this in mind, the glow, especially the green, is a weird type of fungus growing on the tree.  These backgrounds are meant to look other-worldly and slightly-disorienting.

Then it should look like fungus, not like a light. SQ1VGA artist didn't make lighting mistakes.

Many exotic plants contain elements of phosphoric glow, making them luminascent.  Especially in an Alien World, one could find large supplies of 'glowing' fungus, which gives the exotic quality to it.

I personally like the glow, and feel it adds the otherworldly sense to the screens that should be there.

Shouldent we try to REMAKE SQ2? I mean lets go all the way, change perspective, add new plants that dont look like they came from hearth, new aliens....

I'm no botanist, so I'd be hesitant to create new life forms.  Besides, the games creators did create new vegetation for the game.  The vine/plant maze creature is very foreign.  As for the design of the Aliens within the game, sure, their design could be improved or changed.  Look at the difference between the Orat of SQ1 vs SQ1VGA.  It's not changed that much, merely improved.

SQ2 is one of the best designed EGA games, I believe.

I just want to really improve SQ2, because most people dont like it because its too earth like.

Makes small changes if you want, but I think that few people "dont like it because its too earth like".

Awesome artwork everyone, btw! Keep up the good work.  Also it's good to see you, Khaveen, boosting the ranks of talented artists in this thread.

I found SQ2 very un-earth-like, actually. Esp. the earlier part with the fungus and the swamp thing.

Not such a big deal. Making earth scenes look "out of this world" can be as simple as altering just the hue of the image. Look below for some examples.

With a lasso tool or magic wand one can grab their favorite elements and combine them into one image. Look at my rough edit for an example.

Whoops! Forgot to mention I prefer the original feel of SQ2, than some wierd acid trip version.  :D

Okay, I'm working on a new pic, it's the balcony where the ship is in Space Quest 2.
Using Corby's awesome tutorial, this is the finished result (it doesn't look the best, but whatever):

Alliance,

Great first job!  I'm very impressed!  It looks very nice for your first attempt.  It could probably use some close up pixel editing, and slight changes in the foliage, and that's detail work. But as a first version, it looks great man!

Here is my version of Moonlit's swamp-picture. I have altered the swamp a little darker. The paintover is not my favorite, but anyway, here it is:

Edit: Felt the desire to put Roger in the window  :p

I am thinking about working on this on as it appears to be unclaimed.

JayWar, when are you going to update the page containing our SQ2-pictures?

In addition to the fact we have made several new pictures and updates since you started the page, there is one broken link.

Thanks guys. I decided to do some changes to make my mock ups look more Sierra VGA like.
Can't decide which I prefer.

I've been spending christmas touring around with my girlfriend, but tomorrow I get to go home and work behind my own pc. I'll do the necessary updates and linkfixing. Hopefully tomorrow night you'll all be able to manage the updates yourself through a newly added interface.

Hey guys, you are all doing a nice job.
Im not a very good background artist but i think it would be better if you did water zones less detailed (swamps, waterfalls, etc.), i mean, the details could be done with sprites, so there was a feeling that this was really water with some movement, and i think that with all the reflections and details (which are very good by the way) it would be a bit hard to do.
That's it if you are planning to put them all in a remake (some of them really look like the ones from sierra games)
SQ2 is not my favorite but would be nice to have the entire serie in vga and p&c.
