Problems with KQ1VGA

#1 Post by Eliot » Tue Nov 02, 2004 6:12 pm

(Moved from the other forum.)

Guessing the gnome's name--as Rumplestiltskin, Nikstlitselpmur, or Bob--leaves the game stuck: the cursor's a crown, the menu bar is greyed out, and nothing I click or key makes a difference. The gnome's stopped whittling, but the river in the bottom left corner is still sparkling.

The same thing happens after I've defeated the dragon and try to take the mirror. "Congratulations!" it tells me, and then BAM, frozen.

Also, I found my fairy godmother and she cast the protection spell on me, but afterwards I was unable to move--I could look at things, touch myself (or rather, the feather in my cap), interact with my inventory, but I couldn't walk anywhere.

Does anyone know what's going wrong, or how to fix it?

I'm running v3.0 of the game under Win2K SP4. Thanks

it may be a little more helpful if you give us some of the stats on your computer system. Good Luck!

What sort of stats would you find helpful to know?

My OS, as I mentioned earlier, is Windows 2000, with Service Pack 4 installed. I am running v3.0 of the game, as I also mentioned earlier. I have 192 MB of RAM, a P2/300 processor, and am running the game at the recommended 320x200.

The game loads fine and runs perfectly, with no slowdowns or errors other than at the aforementioned parts of the game (guessing the gnome's name and retrieving the mirror, in case you missed that, too).

Does that help at all?

This is a new one, as far as I know. You might verify you have the latest DirectX drivers from Microsoft.

Also, if you press Ctrl-X when the game freezes, it should tell you in what part of the script it exited from. Providing that info could help us figure out if it is a true bug.

Try disabling sound in the game setup and see if that helps. There have been a few cases in the past where the game wasn't realising that a sound effect had finished playing.

I upgraded DirectX and turned the music off, and I got past the mirror and the gnome with nary a glitch. Thanks for the suggestions.

Yes there is!...unless it's a pond or something..in any case, it's right there as soon as you start the game and leave the castle.  Yes, that WAS a dumb way to die.
