"Civilization is the progress toward a society of privacy. The savages whole existence is public, ruled by the laws of his tribe. Civilization is the process of setting man free from men."

The Avatar's Quote Of The Day:

#42 Post by The Avatar » Thu Feb 24, 2005 6:09 am

"Every possible idea may be said to be used existentially, for every possible idea qualifies and is true of a real world. And the number of real worlds, in a word, is indefinite. Every idea therefore in a sense is true, and is true of reality. The question with every idea is how far and in what sense is it true. The question is always whether, qualifying reality in one sense, the idea qualifies reality in another sense also. For, true in one world, an idea may yet be false in another world."

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world.
The unreasonable man, despite all the odds, persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

Ooooh! A quote from The Red Green Show! I might be the only other person here who knows what that is (now that The Knight doesn't post anymore). My current sig is also a Red Green quote. :D

George Bernard Shaw

I always liked his quotes about Marriage, though off the top of my head I cannot quote it properly.

I thought your signature sounded familiar ;)

Yeah, our PBS station aired Red Green for about 6 years or so...and it was pretty popular with my circle of friends  :) .

I liked the part of the show where they would put stuff together using duct tape  :p .  "Handy man's number one tool...duct tape!" lol

I'll end this post with another Red Green quote:

"All it takes is a little imagination, some mechanical ability, and neighbors who mind their own business."  :D

Please rosel, if you're gonna quote Red Green's best line, you have to get it right. ;) Duct tape is "the handyman's secret weapon". :lol  :lol

And my signature is the "prayer" that the men recite at the lodge meeting while the credits roll. The first time I heard it I was laughing for about a week afterwards. :D

I can't believe that no one has quoted Napoleon Dynamite yet, that movie is just as much a gold mine of one liners as Monty Python is!!

Observe...

"Tina, you fat lard! Come get some food!!"

"Napoleon, don't be jealous just because I've been chatting online with babes all day long. Besides we both know I'm training to become a cage fighter."

"There's like a buttload of gangs at this high school, one of them kept wanting me to join because I'm pretty good with a bow staff."

And the ultimate pick up line...

"I see you're drinking 1% [milk], is that because you think you're fat??
Cuz you're not, you could be drinking whole if you wanted to"

Just bask in the greatness of it all...
