Try downloading DOSbox.oriel wrote:Redundant Question about Game Compatability
I don't know the link; google for it. It's at SourceForge.net, I know that.
DosBOX will solve your Sierra game compatability problems. Make sure you read the directions and FAQ about DosBOX itself, so you understand how it works. You should be able to play your games after using it.

DosBox: http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/
(Although I'm sure you probably figured it out from Blackthorne's post)
oriel, did you install the DOS version or the Windows version? The DOS version runs fine for me in WinXP, without using DosBox. Haven't tried the Windows version.
There's a couple of other things to try, such as right-clicking on the shortcut to the game. Go to the compatibility tab, try setting the resolution to 640x480.
Your best bet is probably to get DosBox as Blackthorne suggested.

If you kick the display driver out, then you won't be seeing too much of anything on the screen.

Wow... with all those replies I thought someone here would have said how to do it by now.
Anyway, do this (for windows version. for DOS version, use DOSBox):
Right-click on the Shadows shortcut, go to the Compatibility tab, and select "Run in 256 colours". That will get rid of the display driver error message.
You might also want to select "Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution" as that will make the game take up the entire screen.
You might also want to download VDMSound, which will let you get all the sound correctly in Windows. Just install VDMSound, then to start the game, Right-click on the shortcut and select "Run with VDMS". Everything should be sweet then. If there are still problems, let me know. I can get any sierra game running in windows.
