It's really cool, you guys are doing this altho I have to say that SQ2 isn't my favorite of all the SQ games, because of the lack of variation in the background. But still I look forward in your work...wish I could help, but I don't have the talent for that...yet.
Favorite game of SQ is actually SQIV, but I guess there is no point of making a remake of that one...I only wish the sound of that game would still work cause it's not used to a recent sound blaster.

..
thats not bad although i don't like the plain blue BG. It would benefit from a cave like BG rather than just blue.
The plant life MUST be animated in the water or the scene will look very dead.

Thanks, Klytos and Alias, I'm glad you enjoyed the backgrounds. I agree, I like the cartoon quality for Space Quest.
The original SQ2 artwork still amazes me – it was so well done and detailed for the time. The backgrounds created a great mood for the game, with few colors to use.
I just used Corby's tutorial and a couple of others to make these. Corby's tutorial is really wonderful. It not only demonstrates how to make a Sierra-like background, but also teaches how to use Photoshop. His method of making trees can also be used for making rocks, clouds, ground, cave walls and many other objects. From there it's fun to experiment.

Well. When all the backgrounds are done, you guys should get one of the fantastic pixel editors that's in our adventure community. His/her job would be to make all the backgrounds look alike.
For an example of pixel editors, see how AGDI's QfG2 backgrounds were changed since the originals they posted. Rumour has it they're currently making use of one or two pixel editors. It's unbelievable how much they improve on pictures... even if the picture already seem perfect!
(We've had a few at Hero6 as well. They're important to finish off a picture after the artist is done with it.)

The new pictures are very good.
I added the new pictures on my website http://www.xs4all.nl/~loeky/sq2%20pictures.htm
Sorry I took so long before I updated the site.

providing you can find your keyboard to be able to play it. However that thing on your desk with all the letters on it keeps telling you that everythings going to be fine and it wants you to roll a joint for it since it lacks hands to do the rolling. this somehow seems to make perfect sence to you of course, so you take time out to roll the lettery device a joint.

Or perhaps a pixel editor to bring a sense of continuity.Quest For Glory Fan wrote:I think it would look cool with all the styles also whoever made the game could blend them together I'm sure.
Also consider that Sierra didn't have just one artist that made all the backgrounds - there ARE variations, as well within the old games themselves.

Very true indeed bt however everyone here with the talent to create such a game has already got a project or more on their plate. IA doing 2 (or was it 3?) at once and that makes up a lot of the forums talent. I still have a QFGIV bg that TheHero wanted me to do something with. I have no idea what he wanted though :lol .
On topic of SQIIVGA though what ever happened to kepoesoap's (SP!) remake? I looked through the archive and in 2002 AGDI cancelled there SQII VGA remake for him and his project however looking at this thread I don't think he finished. QFGII is apparently going Alpha soon. it'd be cool to seem them do SQII after using these screens. Apparently this game was the shortest of the series so it would be neat if they could pick that up again.
Heres to Hope.

Again, Alias - thank God you're here to prevent the world from this disaster. Yes yes. No one should ever view these backgrounds. You deserve a cookie for your philanthropic work in the adventure gaming community.Alias wrote:Not like these backgrounds.Blackthorne519 wrote:Or perhaps a pixel editor to bring a sense of continuity.Quest For Glory Fan wrote:I think it would look cool with all the styles also whoever made the game could blend them together I'm sure.
