QfG IV problem

#1 Post by tremane » Fri Jul 01, 2005 10:09 am

Sorry I'm kinda new here so I don't really know where to post this ...

Does anybody know how to solve that bug in Quest for Glory IV where you fight two wraiths (I think) get the bone ritual and when exiting the screen the game freezes ?

I;ve tried a number of patches but nothing seems to work ....

If patches don't help, maybe switching between arcade/strategy modes will help, it worked for me once. You could also try using a lower detail setting or a lower speed setting.

I'd back up what Peter said, definitly play around with the speed settings as this seems to work well for me.

Error

#7 Post by Brainiac » Sat Jul 02, 2005 1:27 am

Ah, the infamous Error 52.  In-game cure is a shift in the speed settings.  Out-of-game prevention is best accomplished through getting Belzorash's patches or using DOSbox.

And QfGV is indeed built for Win95.  It's fully compatible with Win98 as well, but Win2k requires a fan-made patch (XP may as well).

Does it still run on dos, or more importantly DosBox?

You still talking about QFG4? If so, yeah it requires DOS or DOSBox, or VDMSound. I don't think running it in any of these programs fixes the error 52, or the timer errors though.

tremane,

What version are you playing, the DOS one or Windows one?

The DOS one works much better for me.  The URL that 1eyedParrot provided should help you.  ( http://www.geocities.com/belzorash/ )

Download the QFG4 patch, and "unzip" the file in the QFG4 directory.  If it asks you to replace any files just say "Yes to All".  That should solve the Error 52 problem.

If it does not, try using DosBox:  http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/

If you still have trouble let us know what you have tried so far.  I had trouble with QFG4 for the longest time and had to play around quite a bit to get past all of the errors I was getting.
