Death Scenes

#1 Post by Amayirot Akago » Sun Jun 12, 2005 6:05 am

Time to get sadistic :evil Which adventure game had your favourite death scenes, and which scenes did you like most?

The Space Quest series had some original ones. Gary's cynical comments in 4 and 6 always crack me up. I always particularly liked the bit with the green slime in SQ4.

Makes me wonder why Jeysie hasn't updated her site in two years... she said she was going to add other games as well, but after the KQ6 section nothing happened anymore.

Overall - Quest for Glory

Individual - King's Quest - Getting turned into a Graham Cracker

Runner up - Quest for Glory - nothing like being danced to death.

I got to go with King's Quest. For it's time King's Quest II had one of the most elaborate death animations ever, Graham drinking the poison water and grabbing his throut choking and turning purple. I remember as a little kid watching that over and over cause I thought it was so cool.

Nowadays you can do stuff millions of times better but back then it was pretty cutting edge to have more then 2 frames of animation in a death sequence.

"Other". I heavily prefer adventure games where you can't die at all.  ;)

On the contrary, there's no feeling like having absolutely nothing to do, since you didn't notice that you could pick up that one critical widget. :)

Thats called a dead end, not a death. :p
Although I admit that some deaths are results of dead ends. If you ask me, there's nothing like dying of terminal boneheadedness and having a sarcastic message accompany your demise.
Not to mention the awesome, more creative deaths. (Graham Cracker, getting Frogged and cooked, being used for a basketball...)
Just remember, save early, often, and with multiple files.

OH NO! You've stepped into an electrical force field and as a result you're fried to a crackly crunch. YOU'RE TOAST, DUDE!

I completely agree, I think a ''Try Again'' button should be in order if there is infact death, because you may of fergotten to save. Did you know out of all the Monkey Island games you can only die in one game, Monkey Island 1, when you get thrown into the sea and if you wait 10 minutes Guybrush will die. lol

I agree wholeheartedly, and whenever the subject of sheer amusing death messages comes up, I'm always reminded of one in particular...

...the last chance to die in Torin's Passage. :rollin

I'm going to have to choose a game severall of you may not have heard of.. EARTHRISE!

It's an adventure game taking place on a meteor mining facility that has been overrun by the local monsters!

#1 favorite death:  Walking into an unpressurized corridor without my space helmet on.. my head blows up like a balloon!

#2 when i have to face the giant praying mantas monster, if I step too close, she'll bite my head off!

I'm not sure who made Earthrise, <edit - 'Intersel' according to an article, thanks Angelus! -edit>, but it's a great game, definitely one to be placed in honor beside the Sierra classics.
