King Quest 9 back in production!

#1 Post by El_Listo » Fri Dec 09, 2005 5:52 pm

Yes people, it's official, we all can stop hating Vivendi Universal, because the KQ9 team (Phoenix Online) obtained a fan license from them to continue working on KQ9.

As the Vivendi press release says:
"After extensive evaluation, Vivendi Universal Games is pleased to announce that the fan developed trilogy project 'The Silver Lining' (previously known as King's Quest IX: Every Cloak Has A Silver Lining), based on characters from Sierra Entertainment's 'Kings Quest' series, has been given approval to continue development. We look forward to seeing the first of its three upcoming chapters, 'Shadows', completed soon."
The first chapter will not be released this winter because of the stuff we all know about, but it will be out soon.

Dudes, that's Ultra-Mega-Hyper-Monstruous KICK-ARSE! I predict that 2006 will be a great year for adventure games, for real adventure games i mean, not for "wrong games".

You can read the whole announcement from the horse mouth here: http://www.kqix.com/home.php

Words can't describe how great this is. Although I knew that a deal was in the works it's great that now it's official. :D

whoa two people posted while my page was loading. This is cool but KQ was never my bag. I played a bit of AGDI's 1 and 2 and I played 6 a bit but I doubt I'll play 9 unless I get the collection and play through the story first. I was kinda waiting for IIIVGA and IV because someone will eventually make it.

That really is wonderful news.  I thought it was a lost cause.  I wonder if VU planned this all along . . .  Maybe they wanted to delay the release to coincide with their own rereleases in order to drum up sales.  Or perhaps they just didn't want the game to be released until they had some formalized legal agreement with Phoenix Online.  Either way, it's great that it's going to be released.

Nice to see companies still pay attention to the clamorings of their target consumers.  I'm sure everyone here eagerly awaits the upcoming release.

Man, between commercial and fan projects coming out in 2006...I'm going to need more hours in the day to game! :D

Haha. That's a complete swing-around from the previous topics about VU/Sierra. Now all of a sudden they're the heroes. What happened to 'they are idiots' and 'the cause for the death of adventure games'??

Glad to hear they've decided to talk to VU and sort it out.

I think that they are both idots and heros. Idots for pushing back the rerealising of the collections to March 30th 2006. and heros for letting Pheonix continue its work.

Everyone's eager to suck a nipple when it's offered to 'em.

Anyway, this is great news.  Simply wonderful, as the Phoenix Team put a lot of hard work in.  Kudos to all involved.

Fantastic news! I'm glad Vivendi reconsidered... I mean really, what in the heck were they thinking? The shutdown was inhumane, harsh and above all completely POINTLESS.

Guess they redeemed themselves by changing their mind though  :D

OMG I just received the newsletter. OMG. Cool. Can't wait. Drunk. Yes. I was one of the people who sent an extensive letter to Vivendi.

I don't know if I'm going to like the whole dark atmosphere they've changed King's Quest into, but I am anticipating this completely free 3 chapter 3d rendered adventure!!! It will be the biggest thing in a long time for this community.
