I looked all over the site and didn't see anything new. Can you please give citation?

Well, if one is to read carefully, you'll see the games are bundled with DosBox.  Read the legal notes at the bottom of the page.

Hopefully its a modified DosBox which 100% works with the games otherwise if its a standard DosBox release then its a rip off really!

I really thought they were gonna make thme XP compatible on their own. I wonder if both the AGI and the SCI versions of the KQ games will be included.

Im wondering if they made the windows versions of the Kq, SQ,PQ, and LSL xp compatable now thats the major question.  I assume so that they will include both version of KQ, SQ, and LSL in the package. They problay added dos box in the package inclase some on couldnt run the older kq games like kq1, kq2 ect and same goes with Space quest and LSL. But im just guessing though. I hope that I am right.

The Windows versions used the exact same data* as the DOS versions, since AGI and SCI are both virtual machines. I wouldn't be surprised if the old Windows engines aren't included at all, but if they are, they've likely been updated a bit to work with hi-speed computers and XP.

That being said, if they DID update the Windows engines, you can't help but wonder why they didn't create or use a Windows engine for SCI0/SCI01 and AGI. FreeSCI would have been a fairly viable option for SCI0 (even if it's still a little buggy), with the option of using SCI Studio as a reference for reverse engineering for both SCI0 and later versions, and for AGI, there are several options out there (NAGI, Sarien, etc.).

*There is one exception I know of: namely KQ6CD, where the Windows version was capable of using hi-res dialog portraits instead of just upscaled ones. This, however, was likely done by a special override in the engine to use other files instead.
Of course, this raises the question of whether or not those hi-res portraits are even included in the collection...

Bah, they're all greedy money grubbing SOBs, and they're freakin' liars to top it all off. Seriosuly, it's not going to be some "enhanced" version of DosBox. It's going to be the same old DosBox that we've been using. What a gip!

Just got the latest CyberJoke from Al - this was in the header:
Al Lowe wrote:Thanks to Adam Brown for passing along the first "news" story about the (soon to be available?) Sierra adventure game collections. Amazon says they'll be available this Friday, EB says Monday, so it must be soon. VU actually plugged www.allowe.com on the package and on their web site! The bad news? The new Larry collection omits Leisure Suit Larry 7: Love for Sail!

I just thought of something could dosbox be also an option in case nobody can get the games working correctly under xp or dosbox could be for the dos versions of the games incase nobody could get the windows versions working properly.

If they didn't modify the Windows engines, it will not be possible to use anything but the DOS versions. Not only do virtually all of them REQUIRE 256 colors, but KQ5 ALSO requires 640x480 as well.

SQ6 is the only exception to the 256 color rule, although it does exhibit strange colors at certain points. Of course, since that particular game suffers from the dreaded error 47 on any modern PC...

Heres something that I find very odd ineed.

In The sierra website had the kq collection containing only the kq games 1-7.

This site here. http://www.sq7.org/KQ/index.php/King's_ ... ompilation

has the 7 kq games plus the 3 other games that came with the KQC2. I think thats bizarre.

also with the link you have to copy and paste it into your browser's address bar.[/url]

I don't understand.  I've been able to play, without issues, every Sierra adventure game I've tried through DOSBox.  What issues are you guys having?  And what problems are you having with the games?   ;)  :p

I havent had any issues getting the games to work under DOSbox they work fine. Were just trying to figure out why Sierra mentioned DOSbox with the copyright info that was listed under neath each of the new collections.

Minimum Requirements

#68 Post by Jontas » Thu Sep 14, 2006 10:58 pm

Minimum Requirements:
• Pentium® III 800 MHz processor or equivalent Athlon™ processor
• 128 MB RAM
• Microsoft® Windows® 2000/XP Operating System
• Microsoft® Windows® Compatible Video and Sound card
• CD-ROM Drive
• 100% Windows compatible Mouse
• 1.2 GB of Hard Drive space
• Printer

My confusion is with the minimum requirements, do these look like the minimum requirements to install and run the original software in dosbox or to run new Xp-compatible software in windows?
Why would a slower processor not be able to handle any of these games? What's wrong with windows 9x systems for that matter?
Needless to say I would be extremely disappointed if dosbox is their only means of making the original software XP-compatible. Given Vivendi's disappointing history with adventure games, I would still consider this a new low.
