I had some problems with the quicktime movies as well.. I couldn't get the final movie (of the dragon dying) to play, so everyone just stood around awkwardly and I couldn't get to the end of the game.
I uninstalled quicktime entirely and then installed the ancient version that came with QFG5. It worked.

I have had a simular problem with the games. Are you trying to run it in Windows 98 compatability mode AND use the patch? If you try to do both, the qucktime movies won't work. You have to do ONE or the other. I believe that if you try to do the Windows 98 compatability mode, you'll have to have the OLD Qucktime installed.

I had the same problem, but it was easily solved by running in compatibility mode for Windows 98 AND QuickTime Safe Mode. You need both. Here's what I did...
From the Start Menu, select "Control Panel" (you want the classic view). Double click QuickTime and select "Video Settings" from the drop down menu. Check the box marked "Safe Mode (GDI Only)" and close the window. Insert the Game CD in the drive (after installing, of course). Create a desktop shortcut to "autorun.exe" on the CD. Right click the shortcut, select "properties" and click the "Compatibility" tab. Check the box marked "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "Windows 98 / Windows Me" from the drop down menu. Click "OK" and then double click the shortcut. Your game should run fine. Let me know if this fixes your problem!
