My big delima

#1 Post by seraphimdreamer777 » Tue Feb 19, 2008 9:46 am

I have a major choice to make this week get a Wii or replace my broke
Sega CD. So I'm gonna put the pros of getting one or the other of course the cons are not really needed.

Wii
It is a new system
It will help me lose weight
I've already bought 2 games for it
It comes with a game making the number of Wii games I own 3

Sega CD
It's a classic
It's cheaper
I have 5 games for it
Because of the lower price I can probably buy a new game for it
I can get it from a trusted retailer NOTE: I got my first one on Ebay and it broke after a couple months and tried to buy another off Ebay and never received it and the store I'm buying my new one from might get run out of business before I ever get enough spare money for a Sega CD

So I'd like to hear your recommendations and I'll get back with Y'all later with my choice thank you!

Before I can give a thorough recommendation for your dilemma, I need to know:

What games do you already have for both systems?
Are you planning to get more games for either one?
What genres/series do you particularly like for each system?
How much are you looking to spend?
Do you like to play multiplayer games?
Do you own any other systems?

Wait what, your choices are Wii versus SegaCD?  I'm not even sure I should be answering this...

SegaCD did have two or three decent games, if you like RPGs or Strategy RPGs...but beyond that the thing is a waste of time.  You could probably get yourself a Wii, and go on ebay and find a freaking SegaCD + Genesis for a good $15 bucks...you spend anymore than that and there's just no hope...

But if you insist on getting a SegaCD, get Lunar, and I think there's a Shining ForceCD game as well, that's probably worth playing a few times.  There was a third game my buddy once owned that was a bit like Warsong for the Genesis, but it was obviously better being a CD game with extra features and longer gameplay.  Sorry I can't remember the title of it...

But just get a Wii, or get both, come on there's gotta be somebody getting rid of their SegaCD for dirt cheap, I'd have sold you mine if I hadn't tossed it years ago.

Ok here I even went ahead and found something for you...
ebay sega genesis 32x CD combined

Alright so the shipping is obviously crap, but that's all three systems right there.

Dude, I play SegaCD stuff perfectly on Gens on my computer.  Get a Wii, get Gens and play your SegaCD's on your 'puter.

Yeah, get a Wii and Super Mario Galaxy. Probably would be easiest to emulate the Sega CD with Gens, as I think you can use your actual disk with it (though you would need ISOs for Saturn emulation with SSF)

Another question is why he had a Sega CD, but not Sonic CD.

But the Sega CD compared to the Wii? Wake up, dude. While the Sega CD may hold some nostalgia for some it's definitely not "classic". If it was it would've been more popular.

What he said.  There are seven Games I would recommend getting a system for.  Brawl is the most recent of the batch.  The only one I know of on a Sega system is for the Saturn.

Honestly, I'd go with what Bt said and consider getting GenS.  There's also an emulator called Genesis Plus that's supposed to be usable on the GCN and Wii.

As far as I know, the BIOS of the SegaCD are copyrighted and thus, unless you own the actual console, you're not allowed to run the BIOS on the emulator.  Could be wrong though.

On topic, I'd go for the Wii.  I didn't play anything on the SegaCD so I don't know if it's worthwhile.

it is just because the wii is new doesn't mean its good I dunno about the rest of but id rather have a classic system that can play "old" games that i enjoy then a wii where a new game comes out every week then loses it luster after a few days

Don't forget the Virtual Console.

And again, I don't know how you can call the Sega CD "classic". It's like the worst rendition of a video game console next to the Virtual Boy.

So was Willy Beamish and Monkey Island. That doesn't make the Sega CD a classic console.

But he DOES own the actual console; it's just broken.  That's the whole purpose of "legal" emulation right there--to be used as a backup for the console should something happen to it (which it did.)

In my opinion though, "illegal" emulation is the best--screw legality.  ;)  I've experienced so many great games that I never would have otherwise, and I'm not hurting anyone.

I love this thread, because it makes me wonder what a Big Delima looks like.

And google tells me it's a pomegrante!

Congrats on your big fruit.

I'm still pondering why you'd decide between a Wii and a Sega CD. It's nearly two completely different things. The Sega CD is horrible, slow and way out of time. Even in it's prime it was considered bad. The Wii is new, exciting and fun!

Glad you made the right decision, Brawl looks fantastico!

Plus, you may be able to buy SegaCD games on the Virtual Console in the foreseeable future, hopefully. So the Wii is unquestionably the better choice.

Actually, with the Wii you get a NES, SNES, N64, Turbo Grafix 16, and other games, too.
