Oh it wouldn't just be PC Speaker. I'm talking Tandy 3-Voice, baby!

:evil
We'd also need an animator/sprite artist. But we're talking AGI...how hard can that actually be?

Bah, we could just use sprites already made in AGI. I mean, it'd only be a little couple room game.

What would be interesting since theres a program that Converts screens from SCI 256 color into AGI 16 color Im wondering if there is a program that could convert SB or Roland sound card music into Tandy 3-voice style Sound. It would be interesting to hear what the music would sound like if it were made for a Tandy 1000 computer. Ex KQ5, KQ6.

There is a utility that will convert MIDI files to AGI Sound files. It'd be easier to write them from scratch, though, as you'd have control over which 3 channels get converted. I'd also rather see hand-drawn AGI screens like the ones that have been shown here instead of a converted one. For one thing priority screens would be a lot easier to make and it would look nicer.

Even before the comments about the missed opportunity of making a Lord of the Rings adventure game surfaced in the "non-QFG" thread, I had started work on this, my first semi-original AGI screen, which is a still from Fellowship of the Ring. So for those who were interested in what that type of game might look like, here you go. :) Merging two of my favorite things--old school adventure games and Lord of the Rings--would be awesome. Imagine the possibilities...

Simply amazing!! How do you manage this by the way? I know that screen was in the Lord of the Ring movie, but how did you transfer something such as this?

I put the extended edition DVD in my PC, paused the film at that frame, took a screen cap, cropped it in paint, used the cropped version as a backdrop and did a paint-over with AGI drawing tools.

There aren't any words to describe how simply great that looks. And with only having 16 colors at your disposal, just... wow. Great stuff.

hahaha. I don't relish the thought of the massive amount of effort it would take to translate
all of The Lord of the Rings to adventure game form. :) Of course, there are limitless possibilities for short adventure games that could take place in the world of Middle Earth. Relatively short stories could easily be made that revolve around any of the specific locales; for example, an adventure game located solely in Hobbiton (maybe Bilbo has misplaced the ring and he goes on a short adventure to find it?) might be neat. AGI graphics would be well-suited to the colorful carefree world of the hobbits, I think.

Yes, I'm only thinking of small areas of the stories. Be it something original or something actually from the book. I think it would rule.

Oooooooohhhh! I love it! Definitely you should do something!
You know, one of the things that make LOTR so special is the incredible number of parallel stories that you only get a glimpse of. In-book Tolkien doesn't properly explain what happened to the kingdom of Arnor, who were the 5 magicians, why dwarves and elves distrust each other, and so on but all those stories are right there! The possibilities are endless, really.
If at any point you get serious about making a Tolkien-related game, be it short or long, I'll be glad to help, I've read most of Tolkien's work.

Ahhh.

Just crossed the finish line of a never-ending semester. Four research papers and 2 consecutive sleepless nights later, and I'm free for another 3 months. Well not free exactly, I'm writing a large chunk of my thesis this summer, but no immediate due dates or classes for quite some time. I'm going to start another AGI drawing to celebrate. Look for it soon! ;)

Wonderful! It's funny how I missed these threads back in the day, as I already had joined the forums by that date. I wish there were a way to rate threads to give 5 points to this one.
Also wish I hadn't bumped the previous one, as this one has all the previous images attached, too. Quite unnecesary bump, really.
